What is our free throw discrepancy for the season? Has to be one of the worst in nation. The "four factors" includes free-throw rate (FTR), or FTA/FGA. (Edit Note: See BBC's previous post.) FTR has declined year-over year during Carmody's tenure here, fwiw:
Year, Rate (Rank)
15-16, 36.1% (188th) 16-17, 34.4% (204th) 17-18. 29.7% (284th) 18-19. 22.9% (337th)

Not to be a conspiracy theorist, but I didn't see JF getting any treatment on the sideline . He was limping a little after the flagrant foul was called against him, but I see much worse in any game I have ever watched.

Highlights With the opportunity to hear the 2 guys that were grabbed off the street to have a hoops talk while a game went on The absolute worst i have ever heard in 65 years of watching hoops. 2 color announcers. No one even tried to do the play by play attendance—2312 goholycross.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=33100&ATCLID=211783245

And a good chunk of them were URI fans. The "Worcester's team" video was fun, but this attendance figure is not exactly a ringing endorsement of the claim.

Just home from the game. JF tweeted his ankle just after the flagrant foul, was limping badly, but looked like he was playing through it. He got his second foul shortly thereafter and never returned. I thought the officiating was pretty bad. I have no idea on Butler’s T, didn’t see him do anything to warrant it. Rhody must have taken close to 20 more foul shots, and made most all of them. The boys made a nice come back and brought it to two a couple times, but just couldn’t close the deal. I believe RW used to say the they exhaled when they got back in it. The team just didn’t look sharp today, maybe a hangover from the win Tuesday. We forget sometimes that we have mostly kids out there, and they are going to throw a couple stinkers. Their arguably best player only played eight minutes, they didn’t play sharp, and they were within 2 with five to go against a decent team. No reason to be happy with the loss, but they are better than they showed today. It’s a long season.

He also wasn’t icing any part of his body or taken back/kept in the locker room for any period of time. My initial thought was he made a decision to get Niego and Faw more minutes as we get closer to the conference play-but not sure that computes either

Butler several feet behind one of their guys was looking at him and talking as he back peddled on D. The ref who called it was behind Butler so not sure how he observed all this, and didn't know players are not allowed to talk

Was great to see the guys battle to get back into the game didn' t think it was possible without Floyd and with no contribution from Grandison. CLS was incredible and off this game hopefully will get a chance at more minutes going forward as Copeland has not been the answer. In the end think they were just worn down by the bigger stronger URI athletes. Certainly a winnable game with Floyd and a normal game by Grandison. URI lived up to their reputation from 3 point land but were much better from the line 24-27 than their season average of 66%.

Also back from the game. * Sounds like it was a good game to watch live than on the internet from your posts! At least we could watch. * Refs were terrible, especially one who wouldn't be mistaken for an Irishman but called 'em like 45's favorite, McCarthy * Yeah, seat location for those of us who are season ticket holders were, to put it nicely, "less than optimal." *Thanks for the posts that JF played on after the flagrant call as that's what NAD and I thought when others argued he was ejected after the flagrant. * Have to watch a replay but just because a (URI) player lands hard, doesn't mean it is "flagrant." * Butler is the basketball equivalent of McBeath was - plays hard and sometimes his "spirit" causes "unsportsmanlike conducts" penalties/fouls. That said, didn't see or hear anything worth a "T" today. * When we were down 16 or 18 and came back, it was with JF out. Despite what some say, I think that bodes well for next season. While the defense may not have been as good, it seemed to me the Crusader offense opened up with better outside shooters and LeSann was outstanding. Didn't see stats yet but believe he hit 3 consecutive 3's (one might have been a long 2) and then 2 other 2 point baskets. Boy is he streaky. * Guess Ziggy has dropped further down the bench. * Very disappointed we lost this game as despite a demonstrably better team this year over the last 2 seasons, the URI game results were almost identical to when we play them at the Ryan Center. That is, play them close for most of the 1st half; they go on a run and take a halftime lead; we close the gap in the early part of 2nd half; then they run away with it. My disappointment was because I thought this year with our upward trajectory and their downward trajectory that we'd pass them by and get a win. Of course, no JF and a mostly absent Grandy really didn't help. * One of my classmates who should know better (he knows the "Crusader" is gone) asked me where our mascot was! I said: "Do you expect some college kid to get dressed up as a shield?" * URI made so many free throws and had just to many open looks that helped improve their offense. 5 foot open shots does wonders to your shooting percentage! * Beef about the DCU: how come there is no scoreboard showing how many fouls and points a player on the court has? Heck, even the Hart Center has that. As I recall, Harvard's place also was lacking this nice little extra, which I never thought was an "extra." * Caleb is a really good point guard. * Despite the score, the guys never gave up. This will serve them well later in the season.

Nice comeback to come within 2 points, URI too athletic for our team. We need to recruit a big for next year who can rebound and play excellent defense in the paint. We do not need any more small guards. Think BIG. URI showed what big men can do in the paint on offense and also rebounding.

Just 2,312 in attendance with many of them being Rhody fans? I thought Holy Cross was Worcester's team and all the Facebook tweet views was going to produce a big crowd?
This was one of the best URI performances this short season. Fatts had been a bit of a ball hog to date and taken far too many questionable shots (without connecting on many) and did not distribute and share the ball. Played a bit differently today. Rhody team had far more focus. The D and rebounding was there today (which has been a constant most games) and they seemed to try to get the ball inside far more. If only Langevine had better hands and didn't try to dribble in traffic. He turns the ball over too much. FT shooting was likely the best of the season.
Austin Butler is a gritty player. The taunting foul was deserved as he got in the face of the URI player he beat to the hoop after his basket. He reminded me of Brad Marchand of the Bruins. Fans of your team may love him but every opponent and its fans will hate him. Holy Cross ran some nice sets and is disciplined and well coached. URI is just bigger, quicker, and more athletic and they used this to their advantage today (especially in rebounding).
Was surprised to see URI was allowed to bring its mascot, cheerleaders, and Ramettes dance team. This was once the norm for fairly close road games but not anymore. I like it as it adds more atmosphere. Good number of Rhody fans made the trek today and were vocal. Had not seen a hoops game at the DCU Center since the last time the NCAA Tournament was held there in 2005. Actually got free parking at a meter as it is a weekend promo for holiday season shopping. Your baton twirler was excellent during one of the breaks. You don't see that much anymore.

Well, the lead got to 16-18 in the first place without Floyd, and it also stretched back out to the final difference of 16 without Floyd in the game. Not to put words in your mouth, but it’s a pretty enormous stretch to say we are even close to better off without Floyd just because a guy who had 1 point this season entering today’s game put together a miraculous scoring stretch over a couple minutes to bring the team back all by himself. Floyd is our only player who can compete inside, and as the second half of the UMASS game proved, he is the key to beating good teams.

OK, just watched part of the game on replay: watchstadium.com/live/153327/JF came out at 14:12 left in 1st half (about 27:20 on the tape) with a noticeable limp. However, earlier in the game 17:21 in 1st half (about 15:20 on the tape) was when he committed the foul. You'll note he appeared to be injured himself and limped back to the bench while the refs watched the tape. So, he did play for another 2 minutes and change befoer coming out for good. So, it appears he was injured on his foul and tried unsuccessfully to play through it. As for Grandy, not sure what his issue is but any game in which JF plays only 6 minutes, 0 points, 0 rebounds and Grandy gets only 2 points in 22 minutes, we aren't going to win too often.

Perhaps Rhody was allowed to bring it's mascot, cheer and dance teams because the DCU is a neutral site. I would hope HC would graciously say yes immediately if any visiting team wanted to bring them to the Hart, but you're right they usually don't make the trip these days. I remember one tournament game a few years ago when Navy brought their pep band - boy was it sharp and crisp playing "Anchors Away."
Does anyone know if URI and HC were technically co-home teams, or co-equals because this was a neutral court?

Several years ago HC was 351 out of 351 in FT % defense (i.e. the FT % that one’s opponents make)—a stat essentially based on randomness and luck (good or bad). Michigan shoots around 64% overall and hit 17 of 21 vs. HC. Rhody shoots 64% overall and goes 24 for 27 (88.9%). C’mon! Perhaps we should bring Igor out of retirement to put the whammy on opposing FT shooters😏. At least he might be able to “encourage” opposing FT shooters to shoot their normal % vs. HC.

Rhody is in the midst of three straight weekend games away from Kingston at nearby venues. Last Saturday at the DDC to play at Providence. This Saturday today at the DCU Center to play at Holy Cross. Next Sunday at the Mohegan Sun to play West Virginia. I think URI's recent losses to Stony Brook and PC along with a game in Uncasville next week resulted in less Rhody fans than what might have been possible for today's game. Some URI fans on its forum commented that they were choosing the casino game next weekend over today.
I know HC fans complain about the schedule and lack of home games. URI has its own issues with this regard. URI played its last home game on 11/28 versus Brown. It then has six straight games away from Kingston next playing at home on 12/30. This stretch has games @pc/@holy Cross/vs W Virginia at Mohegan Sun/vs Bucknell at Diamond Head-HI/vs TCU or Charlotte at Diamond Head-HI/vs TBD at Diamond Head-HI.
