Worcester experienced its third December tragedy in the last 20 years involving the death of firefighters that had been battling a blaze in the city. Christopher Roy (36 yo father with an 8yo daughter) died after he had been rescued from a weekend fire at a multi unit apartment building on Lowell Street (off Main Street near Clark). He was a member of the Webster Square unit.
Worcester has now lost 8 firefighters in the line of duty during the the last two deacdes. All three tragedies happened in the month of December.

Five alarms at a six-unit residential structure signifies how difficult the containment & rescue were. This could have been worse of a tragedy than it already is if not for the all-out efforts of the crews on the scene.
