A matter of interpretation. I am not as sure as you that those recent commitments are additional gifts or included in the $310 million. I hope you are correct.

In June, the campaign was around $298 million. It crept up to a bit over $300 million over the summer, and I recall that $310 million was reached in September-October timeframe. My interpretation is that these are additive, but are not yet 'receivables', and thus not counted in the campaign totals. My guess is that the tax year could be a factor.

Campaign totals always include gifts and edges. So the $310+ is the all in. Remarkable achievement so far for our little College.

An increase in the campaign total of about $10 million between July and now does not correspond to Fr. B.'s statement announcing recent commitments totaling $20 million if the $20 million was fully booked. A discussion, in accounting terms, of when a commitment can be booked as a receivable. www.nonprofitaccountingbasics.org/accounting-bookkeeping-revenue-contributions/pledges-receivable-explaining-basics-your-developmentAs I read the discussion, if alumnus A tells Holy Cross that he will donate $5 million for the PAC provided the amount is matched by June 2018, that commitment of $5 million cannot be booked until the match is made.

So,I am now more confused whether you are agreeing with me or not as to those gifts mentioned by Fr. B are included or not. A simple yes or no would help me😊

Any indication of how the money received to date breaks down with the various components of the campaign? As much as I enjoy HC athletics, I hope that the portion directed to the endowment in support of financial aid is doing well, too. Getting to a "no loans as part of the financial aid package" ought to be the highest priority.

Getting to a "no loans as part of the financial aid package" ought to be the highest priority. I do not, and the college does not provide a breakout that I have found.. _______________________ I had thought there might have been an announcement at the Luth dedication about a future start date for the Student Recreation Center, but there was none. Two of three capital projects identified at the start of the campaign -- Joyce and Luth -- are up and running. The Student Recreation Center was not part of the initial set of projects, but was added, probably because its size has gown and so has the cost. In 2016, the college secured a $39 million commercial bank loan, directed toward new facilities. The termination date for draws under this loan is August 2018. Through June 2017, the college only drew $2.5 million of the $39 million. We'll have to wait until September or so to see whether there were any draws in fiscal 2018. (You could think of this as sort of like a home equity loan, but where the bank says the loaned amount is only available for use within a certain period.) The college's long term debt total (which includes the $2.5 million draw mentioned above) is about $20 million less than it was ten years ago.

In looking for Athletics Fund numbers, I found this. As of June 30 2017, $298 million raised
Creative Teaching and Learning $56M of $95M Living our Faith $19.6M of $25M (This is basically Joyce) Financial Aid** $47M of $65M Success, Leadership, Citizenship $7.7M of $20M Athletics $81M of $85M Building the endowment** $69M of $110M
** My shorthand term. The PAC may be in Building the Endowment .
