What a wild start! Clemson leads 14-13 (Alabama just missed PAT). Clemson pick 6 for 1st TD, both teams with big 60+ yard plays.
A barnhurner so far.

Have friends from NC at the game! Her brother (who passed last year) was Dabo Swinney's agent and started his foundation! He also represented many NFL players and coaches. Was such a sudden and sad situation. Here's a photo taken prior to the game...

Guess I am surprised at Clemson's 15 point halftime lead but aided greatly by 2 interceptions.

Last time Saban lost by 14 or more was against the Bills in 2006.

Final 44-16 Clemson. Saban totally outcoached. Alabama had no idea what Clemson was going to do. Clemson's QB is a true freshman as are some of his best receivers.

This outcome must make ND feel a little bit better; especially their defense.

Those who espouse the running game/time of possession/clock management theory were sorely reminded it means diddly squat if you don't do most of the following: score points (Alabama's red zone sequences were horrible), NOT turn the ball over, defend.

Anyone wonder why no one has said that Alabama did not belong in the final four? After all, they did about the same as Notre Dame and we were barraged by many posts saying just that after ND lost.

Oh, and let me add that the announcers said on more than one occasion "can you imagine what they can accomplish over the next two years?" Not even a whiff that they will stay for 3 years and graduate. They repeated it more than once so it's not like they accidentally miscounted or maybe the players are so smart they'll graduate in 3 years?

How can anyone who's guaranteed a ton of money in the NFL not leave given how dangerous the sport is? Case in point: Milton from UCF.

The outcome was not a surprise but the margin was. I had believed all along that Clemson would win and had predicted it on this board. Teams are a reflection of their coach. Saban intensely but dispassionately watching his team get taken apart, whereas Sweeney was pacing up and down the sideline, screaming at his assistants and beaming at his players.'Bama was a well oiled machine going about its business with little/muted show of emotion, much like their great coach Saban. The Alabama football team in their demeanor brought to mind the NY Yankees of the '50's - early 60's. Clemson was a buoyant, emotional group who mirrored the passion of their great coach Dabo Sweeney. They showed too much speed for Alabama to handle.Their true Freshman QB was sensational as was the rest of the team. Great win for a great team and a great, inspirational coach. The Clemson QB has to be an inspiration for any HS senior QB who is moving on to play college ball next season. Hint. I wonder what the final rankings will be? Clemson, Alabama,The Ohio State U,Oops! I forgot Georgia, then Florida, Oklahoma, ND - my knowledge of the teams is a bit limited but I would like to see the final poll. Any ideas? LoveHC Wake's coach Dave Clawson ( ex-Fordham ) is also similar to Sweeney....as is our own Bob Chesney.
Clawson and Sweeney are good friends and it's widely held that Dabo is a genuinely nice guy.

Well, it is easy to say they could not beat teams they are not scheduled to play. That is safe. Alabama looked totally outclassed after leading 16-14. Clemson embarrassed them. I am not saying that ND "is" Alabama. What I am saying is that ND had a good season and deserved being in the playoffs. I thought Clemson was the best of the four, but I did expect more from Alabama. On that account I was wrong. The Tide did roll (as in "roll over").

Speaking of “Roll Tide,” a number of Clemson fans had headgear with two toilet paper rolls attached to a box of Tide detergent on either side. Very creative. Crude but creative.

I have a good friend, a Clemson alum, who attended both of Clemson's national championship wins over Alabama. He was debating whether to go to Santa Clara because tickets were running about $1,000 a pop, and schools were getting reduced allotments.

Tix prices were slashed dramatically a week ago and could be had for 30-40 bucks.

Bob, With great respect and admiration for you, ND is not Alabama. Nor could ND defeat OSU, Georgia or Oklahoma and possibly LSU or Florida in my view. ND did not play an SEC or Big Ten schedule. Comprative scores mean nothing. As I posted their schedule included Vanderbilt, Wake and Ball State among other weak sisters.. Moreover, to my eye, ND did not have the athleticism, speed or in some cases the skill set to compete with the very top teams this year. This is not a "knock" on ND or even their football program. It is a great place. ND fans know when they have a great team and I'm sure they knew that this was not their year. As they used to say in Brooklyn, "Wait till Next year." LoveHC Alabama played Arkansas State and The Citadel; Clemson played Furman "Wake" and Georgia Southern. You kind of forgot to mention this. I think ND had a great team this year even it was not #1 or #2 or whatever. Oh, and I am a ND fan (and HC fan).

He was debating whether to go to Santa Clara because tickets were running about $1,000 a pop, and schools were getting reduced allotments. Sounds like he was out of touch. Tix prices were slashed dramatically a week ago and could be had for 30-40 bucks. These were the prices before the BCS pairings were set. His concern was that Clemson, if it was ranked #3 or #4, might face Alabama in the semi. That and the initial allotment to Clemson for the championship was so limited that there seemed to be enough to reward only the most generous boosters. USA Today article on the fluctuating ticket price as game day approached, in contrast to Alabama Georgia last year in Atlanta, where re-sale prices reached $2,000. www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/2019/01/07/clemson-alabama-fans-good-prices-national-championship-game-tickets/2509367002/
