Is the team's record 11-8 or is it 8-11? Isn't it hard to criticize a coach whose team has a winning record for "never" having coached an HC team with a winning record? What? I guess you missed this post: Guys face the facts. This coach has not had a winning season here, the year he went to the tournament, we had 20 losses. He can’t teach his team how to rebound and get back on defense. He gave out scholarships to 13 kids and 6 can’t compete at a D1 level. I saw this coming, 10 wins were nice but the OOC wins were weak. The short bench was going to be a huge problem, and our lack of height and strength are showing every game. Basketball at HC needs a deep re-evaluation. The current coaches are not getting the job done and their time has passed. Do we continue to look at our programs as intramural sports? Or do we need to change things? I vote for true change. I have had it with the ridiculous excuses and reasons why we are a bottom feeder in this terrible league!!!

Current high school athletes do not want to play the Princeton Offense. How many teams in D1 play that offense in this day. It worked for Pete @ Princeton back in the 60's.

Does it really matter if we are 11-8 or 8-11 at this point?
We get weekend crowds of less than 1K, our streaming service makes it very difficult to watch these games, we have maybe one player who would play in a power conference....seriously, why any of us should really bother beyond our extreme school ties is beyond me. It's very low and boring/bad D1 basketball.

We are 2-4 in the pl and have 12 more games, if we go 4-8 in those games we are 15-16,
Sorry guys anything short of a top four finish and pl semi or final is unacceptable!

FLOYD 6-6 Why can't we get it to him down low more. Hard to do when his foul trouble keeps him on the bench. He played 31 minutes. On a "per 40 minutes" basis this season, the only player among the top six who has taken fewer shots than Floyd is Benzan.
In fact, Niego has taken more shots/40. So has Copeland. And so has LeSann.

Thinking about our thin bench while watching another matchup today. On a decent team when things are going south (either with the team or with an individual player) the coach can throw in a better shooter, or a stronger rebounder, or a defensive specialist, etc. We can't do that...and that rears its head again and again.

I don't think Carmody's offensive is geared towards taking advantage of our only PL mismatch (Floyd). It is past time for Carmody to make that offensive adjustment.

Carmody would have never recruited Floyd. He was gifted to him, and I honestly don’t think he’s entirely sure how to make him a focal point of the offense.

Well in general, yes, my friend. When the second half started and the first two times the court, they never got him involved after 12-14 minutes on the bench, that was annoying (and may have led to Green getting yanked a minute into the half). But down the stretch he was not very good and/or LC did a great job bottling him up. Yes, he was 6-6, but he was co-leader on the team with 4 turnovers. Part of it was his very dumb fouls #3 and #4 (#1 was on the refs, a real dive that college refs usually are wise to); I think that may have made him afraid to get more physical underneath. Today, Floyd got 11.5% of the shots. On the season, he's getting 12.5% of the shots. Somebody who makes 70% of their FGAs should be taking more than one out of every eight shots the team puts up, imho. His season-long mis-"usage" (as KenPom understands the term) is a concern. Hard to shoot from the bench and his fouls today were his fault, even if some were bad calls

The coaching staff needs to own the loss today BUT they aren’t the ones missing foul shots, lay-ups, defensive assignments, not rebounding and passing as if they were young kids that never played the game.
With that said many things are going side ways—there is something missing in preparation, training, combinations, or the system. Crazy thing is these are all correctable issues and can be turned around overnight.
12 games to play and hopefully will be corrected soon-
or perhaps the staff might will use the regular season to play and create difficult situations for the kids to learn and then make the adjustments for the tournament which in reality is all that matters.

There are 10 Carmody scholarships guys on the current roster plus the 3 miscreants.

But the players played great. Right? No, this one is on the players..As stated earlier, way too many unforced errors that turned into layups for Loyola..Play was sloppy in general, the ball stopped moving to often..I thought the 2 fouls on Floyd early that took him out of the game really changed the game..and I thought both were weak calls..HC really misses CN..He is the change-up we needed today.. Don't give up on this team, I haven't!

He played 34 minutes in the first Loyola game, and went 8-9. So he went 14-15 in 65 minutes - the rest of the team took six times as many shots (88) and made 40% of them. I'm no math major, but . . .

CN gives us so much more than size. He gives us a 4/5 that can take a foul line/elbow and in jump shot. As tough as Floyd is to handle inside 5 feet he is not an outside threat. It also allows us to play the style preferred by the staff, makes us longer and adds an offensive threat. Today we have no sub that creates an offensive threat/concern for the opposition. On a few occasions today we had two offensive players on the floor and one was silent.

As I said in an earlier post we need to run stuff through andfor him. He is developing each time out, but you can’t ask him to create his own shot by going to the basket 1-3 every time. When we do the offense shuts down as the others stand and watch

The staff should get due credit for helping to transform Jehyve's game and make him a better player. Jehyve himself gets too little credit, I think, for his own transformation, both on and off the court. But, regardless, coming out of high school, he certainly wasn't a "pass, dribble, shoot" guy, which is Carmody's ultimate litmus test for recruits.
Floyd is still a square peg in a round hole in this offense, and maybe the hole needs to be squared some to get more out of his natural talent.

We are getting all worked up about something we have no control over. Athletics at HC have become about participation and the high APR of our student athletes. I am about as purple as they come and have been for the last 55 years. I guess I need to amend that because moves made by the Administration at my alma mater have extinguished the fire in my belly for HC athletics and in no way do I mean that as any criticism of the fine student athletes who represent Holy Cross or should I say the College of the Holy Cross.

In the OOC games the opposition does not have as extensive a scouting report on us and doesn't know our tendencies. Thus we can go back door a lot and surprise teams that we are not physically overmatched by. In the PL they know us well and take away many of the things we count on to score. Thus on any given night we can lose to any team in the League. Loyola certainly was able to take away HC's many lazy passes

Floyd could not function, lost the ball 2 or 3 times. I thought the team tried pretty hard to get him the ball after the first few minutes of half #2. Two of the guys maybe he'd kick the ball out to failed miserably as well. Green 1-8, Faw 2-9. Green's ineptitude was made up somewhat by Pat's fine game, but Pat's not going to knock down a lot of shots. Plus, he had to be careful after foul #3 and especially after foul #4.

Let me continue. The first two years many stated that these are not Carmody's guys, not his type of players. True. Nobody can argue with that. Last year, Here we go, he finally has his guys, picked for their compatibility with the PO. Great coach with his kind of players, his kind of guys. Great things are on the horizon. He is gonna' turn this thing around but not just yet. They are freshmen , very young, gotta' grow and develop and learn the system, too. Don't worry, we are definitely on our way. OK,this makes sense. Wait till next year and with more experience we will finally see great improvement. Now year two with his guys, 4th year overall..Can we honestly believe we've seen great Improvement? I'll admit I was encouraged by the fool's gold of a good start to the season. But then reality set in. 2 wins - 4 losses to our PL competitors. Now we are engaged in a fourth year of excuses. To wit: The PL teams know what we are doing, they have had time to prepare for us; the coaches don't do the shooting and rebounding, the players do.. And the latest: The loss of CN is the reason we lost to Loyola. The loss of this one player is the reason we lost to one of the weakest teams in the PL and in fact in Div.1. Obviously, if HC was a good team and had really turned it around, none of these excuses would have mattered. We would not be 2-4 in the PL taking a nose dive down. And, we certainly would have crushed Loyola without CN. When do the excuses end? Very well said. “Fool’s gold” is a perfect description of the OOC performance this year. We beat one team that currently has a winning record. But Carmody’s bag carriers who seem to fantasize that he is a great coach will just continue to make excuses (or just blame the players). Great coaches don’t have 17 consecutive seasons with 11+ losses. This year would make 18. Time to see drastic improvement or move on.

I hope when Pat graduates, no fault of his (and the thin roster is a limit at this point too), he's not replaced by another short backcourt guy. Two of them playing simultaneously has been a pet peeve of mine going back to Burrell/Thompson. One small at a time! Most of the trap/steals were because of the 2 little guys even if they weren't directly responsible.
