I know Assumption, what/where is Nichols? Nichols college is a D-III school in Dudley, MA - about 20 minutes south of Worcester. A member of the Commonwealth Coast Conference. Nichols has been doing well in hoops lately, but generally the CCC is a weaker D-III conference in MA. They played at Hart a few years ago when RJ Evans was an assistant there. I think it was RJ's first coaching gig Nichols is playing in the D3 sweet sixteen vs. Amherst College at Amherst Friday. Coach at Nichols is in his first season there. Inherited a boat-load of talent.

I hope Carmody & his wife have a long, happy & healthy retirement. But it is long past time to turn around the total dumpster fire that has been this program for the past 10 years. Bryan Mullins (SIU) and Patrick Bielein (Niagara) are no longer available, but there are some intriguing names still out there from the list below. You're on the clock ADMB -- get on a plane to OKC and don't come back until Mark Daigneault is our next head coach A couple new names as candidates for various potential job openings are starting to get thrown around the internet: Mike Rice – Current HC at The Patrick School, previously HC at Robert Morris and Rutgers before getting fired for being too mean to his players. Would provide much needed toughness and energy at HC. Bryan Mullins – Current Associate HC at Loyola Chicago, previously an excellent player & junkyard dog at Southern Illinois, most notably around here causing Torey Tomas all types of problems in the 2007 NCAA Tournament. If he can coach defense half as well as he could play it, we would be in great shape. My favorite names so far: Top: Mark Daigneault (long shot) In no order: -Brad Soderberg -David Padgett -Kevin Bettencourt -Patrick Beilein -Mike Rice -Bryan Mullins We would be in exponentially better shape than we are in right now if we are able to get one of these guys to Worcester in the next month of so.

How about the Nichols head coach, does anyone see a parallel between Coach Chesney movin' on up from Salisbury Street to this fellow movin' on up from Dudley Hill? He's undefeated in the Hart, right? He ended up taking the Assumption job as we go back into this thread.

Are we going to revisit the obsession that some have with Mark Daigneault? I see the smiley face and hope that the Daigneault crowd is going to be reasonable this time. It's not healthy to have a fixation on another person.

Well, one thing that’s new here is that we have an AD with a resume and known background/connections. There might be some candidates to discuss because Blossom has prior experience with them.

The Butler program under Brad Stevens should be the "north star" for the HC program. If there was ever some type of a Stevens clone who would even potentially come to HC, Daigneault is that guy. I would suggest that anyone from the "non-Daigneault crowd" do a little research to learn about him. If you don't come away impressed, I don't know what to tell you. Here's a start: dailycampus.com/stories/2019/4/2/catching-up-with-mark-daigneaultoklahoman.com/article/5601394/the-collected-wisdom-of-okc-blue-coach-mark-daigneaultwww.nba.com/thunder/1-1-mark-daigneault

Parker Search firm, the same firm who hired Blossom, is now running the search for the next head coach. Funny how that works.

Here is an interesting name, Jim Baron....He of URI, St Bonnies and Canisius....He retired from Canisius to spend more more time with his family and grand kids...They (Son Jimmy and family) now live in Sturbridge..65 years old, Brooklyn born.. Lots of experience...

I'm not head over heels about Daigneault, but I do believe he should get a call. My guess is that he's not interested.

Yeah, how dare people be interested in a guy who worked for three of the best college basketball coaches in recent history (Calhoun, Donovan, Willard), including as an assistant at Holy Cross for the best coach in school history, has head coaching experience, is from Central Mass, knows what it takes to be successful in the PL, etc. We would have been far better off with the "Carmody Crowd's" choice of a guy who hasn't had a winning conference record in 17 seasons.....

Jim Baron’s brother, Joe, played at HC in the late 60’s and was a classmate of Stan Grayson and Buddy Venne.
Thinking about another coach,,,,, One coach who is currently out of a job, who was successful and a friend of Ralph Willard, I would presume would not be on the list of candidates. Now that would be the ultimate of ironies. I would guess his viability as a candidate is slim and none. 🤣 😎

Highly doubt anyone coaching for an NBA affiliate is going to be interested in the HC job, nor do I think that is the route Blossom would ever entertain. This is not the HC MBB program of 15 yrs ago.

Mike Lonergan, formerly at UVM and GW - was dismissed under contentious circumstances at GW but rumor had it that he was ready to take our job after Willard left until his wife said 'no'

An item from the UConn campus paper about Daigneault in April - dailycampus.com/stories/2019/4/2/catching-up-with-mark-daigneault - includes the following excerpt: "Daigneault may be in the right spot himself. Will he be the Blue’s head coach forever? Unlikely. But he doesn’t plan out his career or his life methodically like that. He doesn’t have specific career ambitions, rather he believes one should enjoy where they are, especially like the spot he is in right now. He is amenable to returning to the college game, and says he misses the energy, forward-thinking and daily hums of a campus environment, but by no means is actively planning a move towards the NCAA or elsewhere."

Virtually zero shot the PC-wary HC brass would even give Lonergan a sniff.

Please don’t misunderstand- Mark Daigneault may be a great choice and I’m certainly not opposed to him. I just remember how obsessed some posters were years ago. What kind of cash does he make coaching OKCity? Does he prefer pros or college? Seems logical to discern answers to those two questions before concluding whether he’s even a candidate.

Jump on board the Kevin Bettencourt train. I have been and still am very intrigued by him.

Not sure that Kevin Bettencourt would be interested in ever returning to the Hart Center.
I still remember the chants of Teddy’s better.....Teddy’s better during his appearance while playing for Bucknell. He is one that should not have gotten away. I remember sitting next to his mother at a HC/Bucknell game when he was playing. She was really ticked that HC did not have a scholarship for him. Maybe time, opportunity and money will heal this wound, if he is on the list of candidates.
