MD was the choice after SK left, far too much has happened for Mark since then and far too little for HC, no chance he is a candidate. We need a young coach, no more 50 plus year old coaches, doesn’t work.

Two big enticements there along with location seeing that the Bettencourt family is from the Mass No Shore.

Just when I thought this was going to be a quiet and uneventful summer on Crossports. As my wife would say....You thought wrong. Not the first time. 😲

Not sure that Kevin Bettencourt would be interested in ever returning to the Hart Center. I still remember the chants of Teddy’s better.....Teddy’s better during his appearance while playing for Bucknell. He is one that should not have gotten away. I remember sitting next to his mother at a HC/Bucknell game when he was playing. She was really ticked that HC did not have a scholarship for him. Maybe time, opportunity and money will heal this wound, if he is on the list of candidates. Reminds me of one of the greatest press conferences of all time..."I took Kevin Hamilton, he's not bad. I can't take every player." (Can't quite say the same about Kevin Hyland, but unlike our most recent coach, RW had a wild thought that you couldn't just fill your roster up with guards.)

Jim Calhoun’s press conference......too funny. Maybe he will like to move up from the University of St. Joseph’s. Hope no one think that I am serious regarding JC coming to HC.

A quick, superficial scanning of this board would seem to indicate that HC needs not merely an "x's and o's" coach but a coach who is primarily a great recruiter and is able to attract talented players who fit in seamlessly with his coaching philosophy and academically with the school. Our new coach must also be a fine man who reflects the values of HC. No "music man" flashy, high octane recruiter without a shred of ethics for HC... I have a "new" idea: How 'bout a young, energetic coach who was successful at another college and could attract talented scholar-athletes, bring excitement and actually coach as well. And, I have just the guy, maybe the new AD could persuade Coach Chesney to pick up the reins of the basketball team in addition to his duties as HC of the football team. Other than Chesney, it's going to be tough to get a coach who checks off all the boxes. This board will be fun to read. I've got the popcorn ready. LoveHC I like a fresh brewed cup of coffee with my Crossports. Nice to read all the energy in these posts. Anything and everything is possible for HCBB at this stage of the search.

Jim Baron’s brother, Joe, played at HC in the late 60’s and was a classmate of Stan Grayson and Buddy Venne. Thinking about another coach,,,,, One coach who is currently out of a job, who was successful and a friend of Ralph Willard, I would presume would not be on the list of candidates. Now that would be the ultimate of ironies. I would guess his viability as a candidate is slim and none. 🤣 😎 Did Joe Baron simply give up basketball, get injured; or transfer (with or without academic issues)? Just remember starting his Junior year (and my sophomore year), he was no longer on the team. Wasn't missed with the talent HC had coming in at the guard position.

re: the assistant coaches. I think it likely they have contracts for the 2019-20 season, and HC will be reluctant to pay both them and a replacement.
And HC will again stress its commitment to academic excellence. Previous experience recruiting at an AI or similarly academically rigorous institution a plus.

Anyone who spends a minute learning to spell “Daigneault” is wasting their time. As is anyone doing research re: the best crewcut/flat-top barber in Worcester for Chris Mullin. I’d guess that there’ s a better shot at the latter, but there’s also a better shot that Cousy or Heinsohn would take the job vs. Daigneault.
So you’re saying there’s a chance................

Jeff Goodman Twitter Dan Parker & associates did the athletic director search for Holy Cross ... and now AD Marcus Blossom has enlisted the help of .... you guessed it .... Dan Parker for his men’s basketball search. Smart move: Put Blossom in mix for Power 5 AD jobs that Parker runs in few years.
Brian Blaney?

Let me assure you that I am a dedicated, forty-plus year fan of HC basketball, and want nothing more than to see a return to ‘70s & ‘80s glory, but if you were an up-and-coming young basketball coach on the threshold of being in the mix for NBA opportunities, or based on past experience, potentially in the discussion for much more “visible” college opportunities, would you see the HC job as the appropriate next step in your career?

Given the timing of the resignation and the fact that Blossom doesn't officially start at HC for 2 weeks, I don't have the normal heartburn (which generally isn't very much anyway) on using the search firm in this case.

Mike Lonergan, formerly at UVM and GW - was dismissed under contentious circumstances at GW but rumor had it that he was ready to take our job after Willard left until his wife said 'no' You are 100% correct ‘haze. He was coming but vetoed by his wife He is a tremendous coach: proven winner MIKE LONERGAN IS THE MAN FOR HC!!!

Check out the bio on Josh Schertz of Lincoln Memorial U. in Tennessee. 11 yrs. at LMU as a head coach. 266-55 .828 winning % entering the ‘18-‘19 season. 3 time D-II Coach of the Year. 6 time conference Coach of the Year. Early 40s? Originally from somewhere in New York. Credentials very similar to Bob Chesney’s.
Let’s see if he makes it to the search firm’s short list.

I've driven past the college--it is in the middle of nowhere, just south of the KY-TN border. To find even an Applebee's he'd have to drive north to Middlesboro, KY. He might find that Worcester has more to offer.
What kind of salary can he be knocking back at Lincoln? I've got to think we'd be offering a huge increase. That W-L record is impressive---he might just be a good coach and recruiter

After the conduct that caused GWU to fire him, it's hard to believe HC would even put him on a list of coaches to interview - even though he is a good coach in a very narrow sense.

Why did Mrs Lonergan say no to HC?
Why would she approve and say yes, if hypothetically the opportunity was presented now?

1) Burlington vs Worc - you do the math.
2) Zero shot Lonergan would be considered, but when the $ starts drying up b/c your husband is unemployed, that changes things.
