Does anyone own old Holy Cross memorabilia? Helmets, Jerseys, etc? It be great if HC could create an historical display in the new facilities.

I would hope that Holy Cross themselves should have an ample supply of memorabilia. A historically display would be great for Hart. Lobby needs something.

Looks like the kind of hit he'd put on someone

There were three or four photos along with negatives (which I have since misplaced). They were from an estate sale in update NY; presumably the photographer's estate. The handwritten notes on the back of photos just said Holy Cross Crusaders vs. Colgate, with the date.

Thanks for responding so quickly inhoc...I'd like to think it was CL, he passed away last month...'55 team (just looked up) started out very strong at 6-1...dropped our last 3 alas. I thought that was Fitton initially until you see the pressbox is a little different. That hit would have been a penalty in last night's SB

Perhaps the officials would decide they did't see it. You know, the Sgt. Schultz school of officiating..."I see nothing."

I don't remember one; and I sure don't remember a radio box on top of the bottom box. Scary looking, if you ask me. The Fact Book does say that the 1955 Colgate game was in Hamilton, so it's Andy Kerr.

Behind and below was a straight cinder track used for 100-yard dash events during track & field meets on the old baseball diamond.

That track was one of the strangest I have ever seen. Random corners do not make a quarter mile oval.

Was there some kind of box on the visitors' side? Clearly, there was no box on top of that box, I'm sure.
For those that are too young, Old Fitton's visitors' side ended at about the 40 yard line (the 40 yard line closest to the dressing room)...from there to the end zone there were high school (1940s high school) bleachers. There was also a gap where the visitors' stands now join the end zone stands.

That track was one of the strangest I have ever seen. Random corners do not make a quarter mile oval. About 80% of the former cinder track served as a traditional 'warning' track for baseball. A fairly large half-moon wooden grandstand with canopy stood behind home plate in what is now dead LF. This structure was razed to make way for the I-290 entrance ramp. There was a free standing permanent grandstand down the then RF line that survived when the baseball field was totally reoriented to present day. When the new stadium was erected this grandstand survived underneath the new structure but only as a enclosed storage area.
The old football scoreboard used to be off-center relative to the goal post ( don't know if new one is also ). Reason why was because the cinder track went underneath the fence thru a gate, looped around and went out thru another gate in the fence. rgs - I'm guessing this was done to maybe achieve a quarter mile distance.

It may have been very close to a quarter mile (the old grandstand was there when I arrived on campus for the first time), but those extra tens drive runners nuts. There is a local high school in Bergen County with a similar perimeter field (with 5 turns) pressed into a smaller area. It is only .19 miles in length. HC was at least a step up from that.

The school would be better served with a new more attractive stadium. Does anyone have a $100million+ ready to spend? Nothing wrong with Fitton that couldn't be fixed for probably 10-20% of that number.

Definitely need a creative way to modernize locker rooms/ fan facilities. FWIW, the showers in our locker room are abysmal post-game which was always one of my complaints - recruits who see the halftime lockers vs. the Luth are always left puzzled a bit with our answer of, "it's just Tradition". In theory, easy fixes, but worry is that to obtain a permit would mean bringing other non-prioritized areas up to snuff. Fitton is a fantastic recruiting tool, not much needs to be done IMO other than some lipstick on the pig.

They did put up a bunch of railings on the stairways that I'm sure were not 1986-original equipment. Wonder how they did that without triggering a bunch of additional mandated changes?

When's the last time the visitor stand at Fitton was full, I wonder.

For a school our size, HC has had an impressive track record in the three major sports -- basketball, football, and baseball. An important part of college athletics is history and tradition. I hope the College is making appropriate use of its athletic pedigree both as a recruiting tool and to generate interest in HC sports on campus and in the community. The football Ring of Honor in Fitton Field is something we could use a lot more of...even if the best eras for HC sports are now long ago and far away.

When they tore all the wood out of the home side and the end zone 33 years ago I would think they did some rigorous tests on the steel (or whatever it is) that they left in place.
Now, on the visitors' side, the support beams are as old as the metal stands. Nothing was left standing from before the 1986 renovation.
