Do you think that if our Crusader was obviously drunk and wasn't as soft as a marshmallow as Iggy was and instead was portrayed as more warlike (you know "fighting"),like the older version before he was named "Iggy," that maybe we'd still have our mascot?

The Leprechaun will be fine. We Irish are secure enough to have a sense of humor about stereotypes. Plus we're not on the SJW protected list. Ahh, I'm of that lineage as well, but bear in mind that the SJW's believe that they are here to speak for all of humanity. For example, they can decide that a Native American mascot (Sioux, Apache, Seminole, etc) must be eliminated even if that tribe endorses the mascot at that institution. It will not be O'Neills, Murphys, and Sullivans coming for Notre Dame's icon.

While I have not stepped foot on the Notre Dame campus (I don't feel this is a loss in my life as some might), I suspect the students at Notre Dame are culturally very different than at Holy Cross. By that I mean, I suspect that ND students care about athletics, at least the major sports, and support their athletic traditions and that includes their Fighting Irish mascot and see it for what it is - a mascot - no more and no less. It is a symbol that their teams will fight to the bitter end. We had a symbol that would fight to the end too.
At Holy Cross, the students tend to be apathetic about supporting any team they aren't on personally (football team members excepted). For them, the traditions of athletic excellence are ancient history - which makes most Crossports posters "ancient" too. Mascots are for sports. If there were no sports, there would be no mascots. If you don't care about your school's sports teams, you could care less about a mascot. Hence, the Crusader was easy pickings while the ND mascot is safe.

There is no way ND would cave.

I think it's because the SJWs only stand up for those perceived slights that target groups outside of their own ranks. They feel they are doing a great service to the helpless... so them speaking from the moral pulpit about Native American/Indian/"Red-skinned"-themed mascots or Crusaders (insults Muslims) is easy to do. They're assuming how other groups of people must feel and, in my opinion, crossing lines to do "good" in a semi-guilt-stricken over-the-top fashion. "See how open-minded and not-racist I am?! I'm white and I hate the Washington Redskins!"
Meanwhile, Drunky the Fighting Irishman flies high across the country without a blink. The irony of this group of folks never fails to make me laugh.

I just think that Holy Cross should petition the NCAA that all schools should follow our courageous lead and ban all mascots. They are a waste of money and resources and distract from the game and are a vestige of old school thinking with no place in modern society.

Leprechauns, being imaginary, probably get a pass. Unicorns, too.
The Irish are capable of being offended. I know many who don't like the term "Paddy wagon."

Holy Cross Unicorns? That would get my granddaughter's vote and the only way she'd probably forgive the loss of the Crusader.

What about the Holy Cross Apologists:
"We - are - sor - ry... CLAP, CLAP, CLAPCLAPCLAP!" "We - are - sor - ry... CLAP, CLAP, CLAPCLAPCLAP!" "We - are - sor - ry... CLAP, CLAP, CLAPCLAPCLAP!"

Have we won a Patriot League Championship in any sport since the Crusader mascot was pulled?
I hope this doesn't turn into a, you know....
