Some may have liked or disliked him as a coach.......but I always respected him for bringing his team to the Hart.

Jeff Goodman tweets that alum Bryan Mullins will be the next coach at So.Ill. I believe he played against HC when we danced under RW. His name was mentioned in the HC Coaching Candidates thread. He was a terror guarding Torey Thomas all 94 feet up and down the court in Columbus. His winning pedigree (both as a player at SIU, and on the staff at Loyola Chicago), toughness, and defensive mindset would have made him an awesome candidate for HC. Can you comment on his recruiting and leadership abilities—indispensable for a head coach

Elon fires Matt Matheny after 10 seasons. Had 5 senior starters at the beginning of the year yet managed to sign only one recruit early. Spectacular new 5000 seat arena which I have been in and the school should get a better guy in there to compete in the CAA.

His winning pedigree (both as a player at SIU, and on the staff at Loyola Chicago), toughness, and defensive mindset would have made him an awesome candidate for HC. Can you comment on his recruiting and leadership abilities—indispensable for a head coach -Loyola's recruiting has ranked 1st, 1st, 2nd in the Missouri Valley in the last 3 years (per 24/7) -Mullins had a 4.0 GPA at SIU, winning a bunch of academic awards, in addition to 2 DPOY awards and 4 appearances on the All-Defensive Team -A google search reveals numerous articles on the impact that he has had at Loyola, particularly on the defensive end: -- 'He's a genius' — Loyola assistant Bryan Mullins brings smarts, toughness to role-- Loyola's defensive intensity a force under former suburban basketball star Mullins
He also would not have big shoes to fill in the recruiting and leadership categories if he were the next coach at Holy Cross, as his predecessor has been out-recruited by the majority of the PL and has had 3 scholarship players (+1 walk-on) kicked off the team and/or out of school

Sounds like the kind if candidate we should be pursuing but at this point it appears Carmody is not walking away from last year of contract and school is not looking to terminate him. Get ready for another lousy year in all likelihood worse than this year.

A very difficult year for Coach Martelli. His mother passed away last March, and his father passed last month. Now to be fired this month.

What a monster the AD at St. Joseph’s is. Has he no compassion and is he that insensitive to what Phil Martelli is going through outside of basketball?

There’s a difference between
1. Being an AD and making the decision and, presumably, having a discussion with the coach about that decision 2. Being a fan and posting an opinion on a message board and 3. Being a fan and posting an opinion on a message board, every which way you can, at every opportunity you can.

Despite all my trying, I still have yet to come to the realization how clamoring for a new head coach on a Holy Cross sports message board is somehow inappropriate, given the innumerable reasons listed as to why Carmody should be relieved of his duties.

Not often that 2 Philly Big 5 jobs are open at the same time - maybe ex-Big Fiver hot commodity Matt Langel will be in the mix for one of them?

Given his long-time connection with Dunphy, Langel may be given a serious look at Temple.

Yeah, but Temple wanted Dunphy out. I don't know how that would affect Langel, if at all.

Langel wants Donohue's Penn job He'll wait for it. Source? Donahue may well be at Penn for at least 10 more years. I doubt Langel will choose to stay in Hamilton for 18+ years while waiting for an Ivy League job.

Langel wants Donohue's Penn job He'll wait for it. No reason he should rush out of Hamilton for any job, as he could have Colgate at the front end of a dominating run through the PL (*PUKE*). He has assembled some great, young pieces on his roster, and the rest of the league has taken a step back: -Bucknell -- likely his biggest challenger, but appears to be a step down from Paulsen, and a significant step down from Flannery -Holy Cross & LaughU -- two coaches who are asleep at the wheel -BU & Lehu -- bring in good recruits, but Jones & Dr. Reed can't coach -American -- coach hasn't been the same since taking the PL by storm in his first year now that the opposing coaches have his offense on film -Loyola -- (see above about American's offense) -Army & Navy -- still Army & Navy Colgate will be the front runner for at least the next two years, and if Langel can keep that up, he should have some very nice opportunities.

Yes, he may wait - since Colgate will be a clear-cut favorite next year, absent injuries or transfers. But he is not going to wait ten or more years for the Penn job to open up. Maybe Donahue will screw up and get fired in less time than that, but I doubt it. It shouldn't be hard to recruit to Penn and he is a good coach for the Ivy League level. His last two Penn teams have been the best ones they have had since 2007. That buys him at least five more years if there is no misconduct - and it wouldn't be at all surprising to see him still coaching Penn in 2029.

Coming off an 11-21, 4-14 season, there is a report that UMass has fired all 3 assistant coaches.
There are a lot of exits from UMass this spring. If I am keeping track correctly, the number of UMass player transfers out now exceeds their number of coaches dismissed 4-3.
UMass Player Transfers Out (4) Luwane Pipkins Unique McLean Keiran Hayward Curtis Cobb
UMass Coaches Dismissed (3) Rasheen Davis Peter Gash Cliff Warren
