Here is his bio from the Pitt roster. Note that he played at Duquesne before transferring to Pitt as a walk-on. He moved from receiver to defensive back to receiver over his career. That must have been some injury he suffered at Duquesne as he was 6-1 as a freshman there but 5-11 when he played for Pitt......

I have never met Gilchrist, but I generally hated "high energy" coaches with little success in their own playing career.

Is it concerning that Nate Pine left for Air Force and is also bringing a coach with him?

Why would that be concerning? Perhaps Ari was one person who did not read Crossports, so he had no idea he was leaving to work again under someone who was so (in the opinion of some repeated posters) incompetent? Or, he may have seen this as a step up and thinks NP is a good and that AF (along with all of its coaches and athletes) will be getting the benefit of having him in charge.

We need to make some quality hires on the offensive side of the ball. The current staff (outside of Chris Smith) doesn't seem like an improvement from last year? Are we getting a new OC?

We averaged 35 ppg in the 4-1 finish to the season. Not saying there isn't room for improvement, but is that number alarmingly low?

Is it concerning that Nate Pine left for Air Force and is also bringing a coach with him? Why is it "concerning" that a an asst. coach jumped from 1AA to 1A, for likely a significant pay bump? Who wouldn't do this? And NP isn't the FB coach, so he didn't "bring a coach with him".

For the purpose of context, those 4 wins came against team with a combined record of 13-31 (.295), who gave up an average of 28.5 PPG last year. The team certainly showed a lot of fight to finish strong at the end of last season, but it's a bit tough to determine how much of that came from significant improvement by the Offensive Coordinator (who was dreadful against strong opponents) versus playing a very weak group of opponents.

For the two QBs who took nearly all the snaps last year , HC adhered to a RPO playbook, almost up to the midpoint of the season, and resulting in a remarkable lack of productivity. This should not surprise given that these QBs had not run the RPO in high school, were not recruited to run a RPO offense, and in their previous years at HC, had not run the RPO. Only when the RPO was largely abandoned did the offense become productive.

I realize that coaches tend to bring their staff with them when they leave, but for some reason, to me, it seems like poor form for an AD to cherry pick their Head Coach's assistants. I could be totally off here - Just seemed somewhat odd. Pine did a good job with our schedules and the Luth, but I don't believe we saw the on-field product improve as much as we all would have liked.

Then I guess we have little to worry about when he cherry picks coaches.

Ever occur to you that Ari was the one who initiated the move?
