In spending not allocated to any sport, HC is passing out money like a drunken sailor. What does that category include? I think of it as overhead, and general and administrative expenses. Typically, it covers the administration of the athletic department, i.e., those personnel not employed as a coach or staff sup[port for a specific sport; sports medicine and medical insurance; strength and conditioning; operation and maintenance of sports facilities; minor construction of sports facilities; conference membership fees. (The Dept of Education is explicit about Title IX reporting not covering major construction, as major construction is usually sport specific and this would distort the spending on men's teams compared to women's teams.) Until 10 or so years ago, HC was like the other PL schools in the amount of money spent in the not allocated by sport category. Now Lehigh and HC are the two outliers, and HC has surpassed Lehigh in the amount spent on this sort of stuff. In previous years, I thought the difference between HC and the other PL schools resulted from renovations at Hart (pre Luth) e.g., the pool; new surface for field hockey and outdoor track, etc. And I then wondered whether HC might be including the architect and engineering fees for Luth, and the new recreation center. And I surmised that large scale equipment purchases, e.g., for the new strength and conditioning facility at Luth might be included. Most of those expenditures are in the rear view mirror, and yet HC's total continues to climb. So I am now thinking that maybe this unallocated spending pays for club sports, intramurals, and specific exercise and training programs programs for non-athletes. But I am at the point of throwing up my hands in trying to fashion reasonable explanations for HC's out-sized spending in this category.

Would Nate's Bentleys and 36' Sea-Ray be covered in this category? Absolutely! Plus greens fees at The Country Club (the one in Brookline) when prospective donors are being pitched, and the purchase, at discount, of several cases of 1945 Romanee Conti from the Park Smith collection.

Tied at 49 after three. Neither team can shake the other. Demski getting extended minutes. I would try Pedi for her shooting eye in the fourth quarter.

Oops, wrong thread. That's an update on the WBB game for you forensic accountants searching for where the millions were spent. Could confidential settlements be included in this category?
