Kevin Willard is listed at 1.8 million. I think that pretty much settles any thought that he would have considered HC if we had come knocking on his door

Exactly. He was never coming to HC despite what some want us to think.

Big article in Louisville CJ the other day about how U of L learned from the Pitino fiasco and therefore the contract with Chris Mack is twice as long as Pitino's at 12,157 words.

No he wasn’t making $ 1.8 million 4 years ago.
According to the Seton Hall 2015 fiscal year (July 1, 2014 - June 30, 2015) IRS Form 990 Kevin Willard only made
$ 1,492,509 in regular compensation $. 67,870 in other compensation
Tells me he was at most kicking the tires at HC in case Seton Hall had fired him and was not a serious candidate to leave SH to come to HC.

Exactly. He was never coming to HC despite what some want us to think. but he would be a major upgrade, despite what others want us to think.

Just to clarify, you’re just making a guess without any actual knowledge of what happened? He had limited time on his contract at Seton Hall and was on the hot seat. It was a risk to stay at Seton Hall and risk getting fired, which would leave him in a tough position to get a job where he could win. On the other hand, while there would have been a pay cut to go to HC in the short term, he would have had a long term contract with job security and the opportunity to build a program, win significantly, and then get a better job than Seton Hall. There was risk either way, but as a guy in his late 30s with a lot of years in coaching ahead, he would have been in better position 5-7 years later if he had taken the HC job than he would have been in had he waited to get fired by Seton Halll. But that ship has sailed, Willard has done an excellent job at Seton Hall, and Holy Cross has been left with an inferior coach who was a horrible fit for the program from Day 1. Go Cross Go!
