Imagine if we had hired an assistant with this coaching resume: RPI (2014) Graduate assistant 2015-2016 Out of Football Amherst (2017–2018) Defensive line coach He also stopped by Syracuse. And his undergraduate degree was in aeronautical engineering, and aeronautical engineers are smarter than an average bear, like me...... The man behind the curtain was a municipal bond trader, and coached intramural football. HC had a rather successful coach who was part-time, --being a VA physician was the full time job. Back in the days of my avatar, IBM would hire music majors to write code. So yes, background and credentials aren't always a predictor of success.

I am underwhelmed by several of the new coaches. This is not a Rick Carter coaching tree that is being assembled on Mt. St. James. You're better than this....
After 3 seasons, Greg Burke once opined on Carter's staff " the best young minds in college football "
Dan Allen was on Carter's staff at Div-III Dayton. Kevin Coyle had 1-years experience as the DC at the Merchant Marine Academy and Mark Duffner had couple of cups of coffee at Cincinatti
Not much different in 1981 than in 2019, eh ?

In the internet age, it is apparently possible to judge a person's ability to get a job done before they actually have a chance to do anything. I feel this is a bit of the old "forest and trees" argument. Instead of trying to dissect each coach's bio in minute detail (each "tree"), I feel confident they will get the job done because they were selected as a staff (forest) by a head coach in whom I have confidence. After all, he has assembled a staff before with a great deal of success in more than one location. I am less interested in the overall potential that man has for the future than in the potential they have to accomplish the jobs as a staff that Coach Chesney will be assigning to them.
