How many NCAA football fields are 90 yards? I guess I was counting wrong the whole time I watched, broadcasted, or was on the field. You're kidding, right? Do you think there are techniques you can learn/perfect on a 100 yard practice field that you can't learn/perfect on a 90 yard field?

The field in the IPF is 100 yards end to end. This includes an end zone in the north side of the field.
To have a practice field to match exactly a full regulation field would have required 120 yards, with a playing field of 100 yards, plus two end zones of 10 yards. As noted, each roof trust cost 2 million dollars. To add the additional 20 yards would have cost over 5 to 6 million, maybe more due to the building configuration.

I've never practiced so I can't tell you if it is a boon or bust. I would imagine it's not that big of a deal. And I was unaware of the price per truss, but knew either PP or someone else would know (thanks, Crucis). But I must nitpick because I'm not playing in March, and the optics of a 90 yard field and optics of a gym with a low ceiling that looks like a high school (post $90+M investment) can raise certain questions.

So, the 90 yard field has bad optics? I'll bet a lot of coaches would love to have even a 50 yard indoor facility. Are all the other indoor practice fields we hear about a full 100 yards plus end zones?

Just put the ball on the 10 after a touchback and you're good to go. It's 90 yards more than we had before and a 10% lower heating and air conditioning bill than a regulation field.

Please post pictures of a high school basketball facility anywhere in New England that is in any way close to the Hart Center arena.

Optics, good choice of words wchc, because if/when you actually see this indoor all purpose playing space, pretty sure one of the last things you'll think of is that it's only 100 yards, rather than 120

I have one minor nitpick: if Derek Ng improves each year he may outgrow the IPF....

The roof trusses at HC are very expensive; they are heavier than the trusses at BC's new indoor facility. The image of BC won't load. It is here: pbs.twimg.com/media/Di9PIjTW4AABTLm.jpgChestnut Hill Ann Arbor Athens GA Worcester. Why is Luth like the proverbial brick outhouse? Maybe because it is at the top of a windy hill in a city that usually gets an abundance of snow every winter. Maybe because insurance underwriters have long memories about tornados and colleges not mixing well in Worcester. And maybe because the 'field' can seat 7,000, IIRC. A roof collapse when there are multitudes beneath would make for a very unhappy insurance company, assuming the college even got a rider covering such a gathering.
