One job requirement that I haven't seen mentioned....being able to work with powers that be to get things done. Being able to wake up the President and Board of Trustees and let them see how important athletics are. Deal with admissions and give the coaches some relief in recruiting.
Number 17 has the resume to accomplish this.

From a fundraising perspective (which I'm hearing is now the most important part of being an AD these days), the business conversations that a guy like Gordie is having are a lot closer to the discussions that he'll be having with HC alums than any type of fundraising that may be occurring at Wentworth or UMASS Boston. I don't know if this is the total annual fundraising or just some specific campaign, but the attached shows a total of $16,231 raised from 158 donors, without any sport coming close to reaching its goal. alumni.wit.edu/s/1607/bp-crowd/home.aspx?sid=1607&gid=1&pgid=1099By comparison, during only the giving day challenge this winter, HC athletics raised $237,094 from 2,000+ donors. goholycross.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=33100&ATCLID=211789236IMO, Gordie is managing a business on a scale that is closer to HC athletics than what the Wentworth AD is managing there.Wentworth athletics vs HC athletics is comparing apples to tractor trailer trucks, especially for our major sports, one of which (Football) doesn't even exist at Wentworth. I would certainly bring Aaron (and Eruzione) in for interviews if they are interested and would consult with them about the hire if they are not. I would prefer someone with experience in a D1 program but would want to talk to them and make a judgment. That said, I don't know how you can argue that "Gordie is managing a business on a scale that is closer to HC athletics than what the Wentworth AD is managing there." His bio on the Sullivan Group site makes no mention of any managerial role at all. It would appear that he sells himself and his firm as capable of coming up with solutions for clients with insurance needs. To use your analogy, comparing being one of several partners of a local insurance agency to running a college athletic department is like comparing apples to tractor-trailer trucks. If you told me you wanted Gordie as a Bobby V type AD and wanted to hire a professional behind him to make the trains run on time, I can at least understand that argument. Wentworth and UMASS Boston are about as low on the college sports totem pole as you can get (no offense). I have no doubt that a guy like Gordie would be able to get up to speed on anything that may have been learned at those schools that would apply to being the AD at Holy Cross (likely not a whole lot). Bobby V is a clown show. I would not want anything like him, and would not expect a guy like Gordie to be the same type of AD that he is.

Voted no because it sounds like this individual played a "minor" sport and D3 is very different than D1. We need someone who can get Men's Basketball straightened out and support Chesney to maximize his time at Holy Cross. The two characteristics referenced above wouldn't make me confident that this individual would (1) prioritize these items and (2) be successful at actually carrying the tasks out. I think we'd all support you in demanding a thorough analysis of this individual's hiring and firing of head coaches and the clear success of all sports under his/her tenure as a direct result of same.
