I am really looking forward to hear some of the reactions of those who were at the game. ANY information is appreciated! Briefly: The running game, and defense looked ok. We have, to no ones surprise, serious quarterback issues. From where my friends and I sat, Clifford looked to be the leader after spring practice. I look forward to more detailed analysis for others who were there.

Second-most interesting play of the day. Most interesting was a TD pass on the halfback option from Miles Alexander to Tenio Ayeni.

Don't know but my sump pump keeps going on so perhaps the field was soggy.

Key extract from the T & G article:
Senior quarterback Emmett Clifford ran the first-team offense Saturday with mixed results as the offense beat the defense and HC wrapped up its spring season on a beautiful afternoon here. He completed a pair of nice long passes, one to junior Tenio Ayeni, who scored two touchdowns, and one to senior Jon Jon Roberts. Junior Connor Degenhardt and sophomore Eddie Scott also saw action at QB.
″(Clifford) has done a good job in spring practice,” Chesney said. “Today was not a good job. I did not see any quarterback in there today that you were real happy with their performance. I think we all missed some things. We all put ourselves in some situations (dropped snaps, third-and-longs) and we have to force the ball down field in some situations. Tenio is a pretty good receiver and he’s going to create some matchup issues and we have to just not be afraid to throw the ball down there to him.” Clifford started the first three games of 2018 before giving way to Geoff Wade, who will graduate in May. Clifford finished the season 24-39 for 204 yards, a touchdown and three interceptions.
Degenhardt appeared in two games and attempted one pass.

Jennifer's column was mainly about the new DL coach.
From the rest of her article, she wrote that the offense beat the defense, but BC was unhappy with the QB play on the part of the offense. Is one to conclude that on a day when none of the QBs impress, that the defense is so poor that the offense is still able to 'win'?
About not getting the ball downfield, the question I have is this the result of Mr. Spread 'em and shred 'em resurrecting the RPO, and Clifford not able to get either distance or accuracy when throwing on the run?

By "rising frosh," do you mean those rising to sophomore year, or those coming in this fall?

Coach Chesney's evaluation of QB performance yesterday is, in my opinion, completely accurate and refreshingly honest. If there is one positive thing, the QB play was better in the second half than in the first half of the game. (Due to time constraints, the second half was much shorter than the first half.)
Why did the offense "defeat" the defense? In large part, it is because the scoring criteria heavily favors the offense.
All five of the 5th-year seniors were present but did not participate in the game.
This is a rough estimate -- but I believe there were at least 10 and perhaps as many as 15 of the incoming freshmen at the game. The incoming defensive players were on the sidelines with the HC defense, and the incoming offensive players were on the sidelines with the HC offense. I personally spoke with parents of several of the incoming freshmen. A very positive experience.
Based on the handout distributed at the game, there are several position changes. Dean Nagle is now listed as a WR/QB, and played WR. (It's possible he got a couple of snaps at QB, but I don't remember any.) Justin Bruno is now listed as a RB/WR and I believe he did catch at least one pass. Daniel Kurkowski (listed as an OL last year) is now listed as a DL; if he can do well at his new position, he will bring much-needed heft to the interior of the defensive line.

Thank you for the report, breezy. Several of us had speculated that Bruno might be moved to WR--perhaps that is a sign that we have solid depth at RB with Cozier, Oliver, Alexander, and newcomer Forrest?? The potential Nagle move, the potential Bruno move, and the confirmed Teeter move help shore up a receiver corps that some thought was thin.
Re: receivers-I continue to think this will be a breakout year for Tenio Ayeni and that Spencer Gilliam will be a big contributor as well

I have to agree with the QB assessment by the Coach Chesney and others. Clifford throws a number of floaters and had many overthrows in my estimation. I would like to have seen Degenhardt get the chance to throw with the 1st offensive unit, Clifford had plenty of time to pick out receivers unlike Degenhardt or Scott running for their lives.....also the receivers need to get more separation or our defensive backs have improved immensely. The running backs did well, with Oliver being a load to take down. Cozier also impressive. I am no offensive coach, but we need to attack the middle of the field, especially when blitzes were coming and no audible made for the quick pass in the middle of the field was called. It was evident this was available all day - Coach Murphy needs to make the adjustment. I don't think they know that you can throw to the tight end, I would hope one of the freshmen coming in can provide the speed and hands to become a true weapon for the offense. Lots of work still is ahead for this team....

I agree with the assessment that the receivers did not create any separation. That made it tougher for the QBs who were inaccurate to begin with.

Why didn't they play at Fitton? They probably had a good idea how many people were likely to come and didn't need the seating. Plus, not worth digging up the field for one game, especially seeing as how late it took the spring to arrive in Central Mass.

Am I missing something or does spring actually arrive early sometimes in Central Mass? Certainly didnt between 2007 and 2010.

Agreed. My understanding is that in obvious passing situations, a 6th defensive back would replace one of the 4 DLs.
