A+ Academics, Professors, Value A Student life A- Athletics, Party Scene B+ Diversity, Campus B- Campus food, Dorms, Safety C+ Location Overall grade A+ www.niche.com/colleges/college-of-the-holy-cross/Athletics is ranked #200 of 1402 A great problem with some of the niche rankings is that the values are self-reported, subject to manipulation, and not correlated with more objective measures compiled and reported by others. E.g., www.niche.com/colleges/survey/start/?t=u&e=college-of-the-holy-crossSuch self-reporting is subject to confirmation bias, on a large scale. With respect to location, Worcester State grades Worcester as a B+, Assumption as a B, Becker as a B, WPI as a B-, Clark as a B-, HC as a C+. Anna Maria and Nicholls rate their location as a C-. .

All these rankings, in composite, are important.

Diversity and campus should be disconnected They are not connected. Pak matched the categories to the "grades." Of all of the unscientific ways one can try to rate colleges, this might be the worst.

Diversity and campus should be disconnected They are. HC just happens to have the same rating for both.

I got it and I apologize for missing the obvious explanation.
How did Campus not get an "A"?

I got it and I apologize for missing the obvious explanation. How did Campus not get an "A"? This is the methodology used. www.niche.com/about/methodology/best-college-campuses/50 percent of the campus grade was based on the grades for food, dorms, safety, and location. Those grades for HC were B-, B-, B-, C+. HC students perception of The Woo was a big influencer.

The sample size of those who rate (review) the college is much smaller than the total number of reviews. Niche says there are 502 reviews of Holy Cross, but that is the aggregate total of responses to individual parts of the survey. For example, if the survey has 10 parts, and a survey respondent individually rated all 10 parts, Niche counts that as 10 reviews, not one. Thus the actual number of individuals who completed the survey form over the past 7-8 years is very likely fewer than 100. There were 16 "terrible" ratings of Holy Cross, of which 7 rated student life as terrible 4 rated dorms as terrible 3 rated campus life as terrible For example, www.niche.com/colleges/college-of-the-holy-cross/reviews/?category=Housing&rating=Terrible If I was so inclined, and I used either incognito mode or a dynamic ISP, I could stealthily and profitably spend a few afternoons devaluing BC, --simply by filling out surveys on BC with complaints, gripes, critical observations, etc.

"A- Athletics, Party Scene"
I wouldn't grade either the same from my time.
I used to think Kimball food was adequate, and then I saw what other colleges served by way of variety and style. Ten years plus gone now, but HC was way way way behind.
