A walk and an HC error give Army runners at 1st and 2nd with 2 out. F. Span in to pitch replacing McKinnett

Just a great result this weekend ! I thought we were going to regret the 3 straights walks issued to open the top of the 8th, but we survived and McGowan got his 1st win of the season on Senior Day - Good for him ! Looking back on the weekend, DiCenzo deserves a lot of credit for his pitching strategy in game one yday - starting Spano who had pitched only 5 innings all year with an era over 10.00 - somehow he pieced together 7 innings of good pitching to win that game - then he was left with his three weekend starters who all pitched very well for the remaining games. I don't know how he dreamed up the pitchers for that early game yday but congrats to him !

Elsewhere in the PL, After losing two today at bucknell lehigh is 8-13 in the league. Lafayette won game one vs navy and is losing late in game 2 - if this holds they’ll be 10-11 going into next weekend and in good shape to secure the 4 seed

Navy is officially the 1 seed and we are officially in the playoffs. Updated standings:
1. Navy 18-7 2. Holy Cross 13-8 3. Army West Point 12-9 4. Lafayette 10-11 5. Lehigh 8-13 6. Bucknell 6-19

It's really impressive how this team has turned things around after their rough southern start. Took a while for guys to settle into their roles, but Dvorak and Cronin have been a solid #1 and #2, probably the best in the PL. Sophomores like Kale and Blum have taken huge strides to improve the lineup.

Which is ridiculous It punishes schools like us who schedule challenging teams and likewise rewards schools that schedule cupcakes

It looks as if Navy and Bucknell's regular PL seasons are over with 25 games; the other schools have played 21 games. So HC with eight losses cannot catch Navy if Navy is done for the regular season.

OOC record won’t impact us. First tiebreaker is head to head which we win against Army. With an odd number of games against each team, there shouldn’t be any need for an additional tiebreaker in a 2-way tie. Maybe it gets screwy if there’s a 3-team tie but I’m not trying to figure that out unless I have to.

I 'd like to see our batting stats v PL opposition only since that is all that matters right now (and the stats are skewed by our tough OOC).

First in OBP but last in slugging average. The love of the moronic sacrifice bunt and the dearth of home runs suppresses multi-run innings and thus our overall scoring.

2nd in Average and first in OB%. Must be the low HR totals and high K rate. Sabermetics guys may say we have an unlucky BABIP, but I'm not going to try to calculate it.
#1 in ERA...good pitching beats good hitting. Navy is #3 in ERA, but takeaway Song and they drop considerably.
This weekend series was good, low scoring competitive baseball, with HC and Army 1/2 in ERA. These may be the top 2 teams in a 3 game series

hard to argue against Navy with the best slugging % and fielding % Probably the best in runs per game

in league stats are interesting - two other observations = Liam Dvorak is no. 1 in era - 1.32 vs. Noah Song 1.71 = Navy defense is very good - overall fielding % .980 - vs. our somewhat mediocre .960

At first glance .960 seems close to .980 (same ratio as a .304 batting average to .310)--until you realize that means we make twice as many errors......

We are last in runs per game. Navy at 6, Army, 5.7, we are 4.1 we still have 4 games, 2 ea with 2 teams; we could get to 5/g; 1 yields nearly 6/g; the other 7/g

McGowan is clearly having a down year, but he was a stud last season, and pitched well in the Cape this past summer. I think it's great Coach D has stuck with him. Hopefully he has it figured out and can finish a great HC career on a high note.
