I am glad the first Assistant position which will be replacing AM's broad experience as Associate Head Coach is going to a seasoned coach. As the RW era showed imo, HC needs talent in the coaching staff to add value to the talent of the players we can recruit and admit to do our best on the hardwood.

Now that Burke has been named permanent for lax, when does McEnerney get her just reward ?

She's coming from the Air Force Academy - seems like a referral from Pine to Sullivan (imagine this communication started before Blossom's arrival) I'm not as excited as some here about her background, if you read between the lines, anyone whose responsibilities included 'travel, marketing and social media' was not a top assistant (although I hope her recruiting experience will result in getting involved with better players)

Compare her experience at hiring to the two current Assistants. By no means did I intend to slight them when I described Ms. Fitzpatrick as the first assistant. I just looked at the experience at hire and assumed the staff is budgeted for two fairly entry level position and one, that AM previously filled, for someone with more experience. Clare had a strong D-1 playing career as well.

Now that Burke has been named permanent for lax, when does McEnerney get her just reward ? My understanding is AM is auditioning during the 2019-20 season and will earn her just reward based on the success of this season. PB had one full season as interim, AM a partial season. WBB is a revenue sport that averaged 817 fans per home game last season and has averaged over a thousand in good times. The salary commitment in WBB is greater than MLax. If MB gave AM her just reward tomorrow I would be happy for her, but having the head coach on an interim tag for a year is a management asset that MB may not want to give up until he sees a full season. If WBB comes out of the gate 15-2, however he would be smart to sign her to protect Holy Cross.

Do not know how you got that understanding but there are flaws in it. Blossom did not see any of Burke’s games, yet gave him the job. He could do the same with Mac. How much difference is there in men’s lax attendance to women’s hoops ? I believe that point about women’s hoops being more important than men’s lax is wrong. Mac has been an HC assistant for 11 years, 10 as an associate coach. As a head coach at Merrimack she was 119-60. She was 6-3 this year with a quarterfinal win on the road. Her qualifications are very strong.

You are right, I can't remember it ever being stated that the interim tag was for the next full season or any finite period of time. I guess that's just how I would favor it after the SK debacle in MBB. As far as WBB being more important than MLax, I don't think any sport is intrinsically more important than another but I think WBB is more expensive than MLax, it gets more coverage in the media (T&G, Charter TV 3, Radio) and the Head Coach probably gets paid more, but not certain about that.
I am probably a BB chauvinist also because I never had the opportunity to play Lax or get to understand the game well, but played CYO basketball from grade 3-12 and took it as seriously as the NBA.☺️
You are also correct that Coach Mac is well qualified, and the team responded well to her.
I thought the interim arrangement was a fair trade-off because AM didn't have to compete in a national search and HC didn't have to commit to a long term contract right away under an interim AD. It will be interesting to see if MB does lift the interim tag soon.

I would hope that MB does. AM has been a strong asset for the WBB program and deserves it.

How much difference is there in men’s lax attendance to women’s hoops ? I believe that point about women’s hoops being more important than men’s lax is wrong. Fifteen years ago - before the steady slide into chronic mediocrity began - WBB was drawing nearly 2,000 per game. Ten years ago, it was drawing 1,000. If the program becomes competitive again, I'm guessing it has the potential to draw somewhere between 1,250 and 1,500 per
MLax averaged about 200 per game fifteen years ago, 350 last year. Doubt it will draw any better in the future.

I don't understand the wide support for AM. She has been the top asst for the last decade or so as our program slipped into the wilderness of women's hoops. Does she get a pass on that ? yes, she had a nice run after BG left but that only reflected poorly on BG, as our team had plenty of talent but was simply not playing for Gibbons, imo. With the Luth facility and the emphasis HC puts in our basketball programs, I think we could attract an excellent coach to take over this program. Of course AM should be considered if she's up for being a head coach again (do we know that she is?) and if this next season goes well, with Manis and Swords experienced seniors.

Count me in the neutral corner. I think it makes perfect sense to have her coach as interim for a full season and then decide. If she does a great job, to me, she's earned the position. If she falters (i.e. more of the same), then yes, maybe she was part of the problem not part of the solution and you do the usual "national search." I do suspect the latter, not the former but Blossom would be smart to let this go another season.
What she has done in the past at other places no longer counts IMHO. An analogy: maybe when you hire a new trainee out of college, you look closely at their transcript. Once they've worked for you 3-5 years and looking to promote, that transcript means a whole lot less than how the person performed for you in the current job.

Agree. With the talent returning and with AM's two winning tenures as interim, the most likely scenario is a successful season. It has been a unusual set of circumstances that allows MB to keep his options open in one of the revenue sports. He isn't being punitive by waiting to decide because the interim status was Mutually agreed upon...unless a promise was made the interim status would roughly coincide with the interim status of the IAD and a decision would be made when a new AD was hired.☹️

I wait with some interest to see who they sign for the last 2 spots for '20 and if the keep their 3 commits for that class, all who appear to be pretty good players.

The new assistant was an assistant at Yale before going to the AFA. (She played at Cornell.) The HC at the AFA was previously the HC at Yale, so when she became the HC at the AFA, she apparently brought the new assistant with her. The HC at the AFA was given a contract extension to 2023 by the previous AD before NP arrived. Her W-L record would not seem to have warranted that, but then the AFA is playing in a whole different conference than USMA and USNA playing in the PL.
My sense is that ADNP would not have recommended her for HC if he viewed the HC program as being organizationally unstable.
