Today is Hockey Giving Day at HC with some alumni providing incentive/matching funds based on the number of donors. I got an email text from Caleb Green asking for support. Nice to see one team helping another.

Here’s the email about a huge day in hockey giving. I made my first ever hockey donation to honor my friend Lance “Duke” Brady. The classes of 1992 and 1993 were a big part of the donor and dollar numbers given the number of people he touched in those classes.
Today was a remarkable day for our hockey program! Every goal put forth was reached. Every challenge made was answered. Every donor and dollar record for a varsity teams’ one-day giving challenge was SHATTERED! At the close of our hockey giving day challenge, 584 donors came together to support Holy Cross hockey raising $165,525. THANK YOU for being a part of a record-breaking day! Your overwhelming support of our hockey program on Mount St. James has always been outstanding, and you did not let us down today. From our alumni, parents, players, coaches, friends, and everybody in between, you showed us why our young men and women have the opportunity of a lifetime to be a hockey student-athlete at Holy Cross. The benefit of the support raised through today’s challenge will continue to help us reach our goals on and off the ice. A very special THANK YOU to the teammates and classmates of Lance “Duke” Brady ’93. Thanks to your generosity, we reached our goal of raising $50,000 to name a space in honor of Lance in the Hart Center Ice Rink. Today, your efforts made in his memory were incredible, and we cannot wait to dedicate a space in honor of Lance. Stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks. We look forward to seeing you at Crusader hockey games next seaso

At my reunion weekend, one of the assistant athletic directors (I forget his name, used to be at Assumption) said in the Bud Ryan room that "we would certainly like to get the men into Hockey East, and hopefully that will happen soon."
This may grease the wheels. Go Cross!

Nick Smith would have been the person providing the info regarding Hockey East. Good news that Hockey East is still a viable option.

At the presentation on Saturday in that same room, Marcus seemed to imply that it was far from a done deal if I heard correctly. He specifically mentioned the Railers. Time will tell.

At the presentation on Saturday in that same room, Marcus seemed to imply that it was far from a done deal if I heard correctly. He specifically mentioned the Railers. Time will tell. It is my understanding that the Railers' right of refusal on competing ice shows doesn't go on forever. I was told it was a three year commitment from the city. That would mean the Railers could prevent HC from playing in Hockey East next (2019-20) season, but would not be able to block them for the following (2020-21) season. This assumes the person who told me knows what he's talking about

Sounds like a reasonable contract provision. But the longest any minor league franchise has lasted in Worcester is only a handful of years. The Ice Cats lasted eleven years, the Sharks ten and the Tornadoes eight. Holy Cross has been in Worcester for 176 years and counting. So HC wouldn't have as many home games as the Railers and probably not draw as well, but if HC gets into H.E. we may last longer at the DCU than minor league teams have lasted in the city so far.
