In my very limited personal interactions with Coach Carmody, he certainly came across as a gentleman. I wish him and Mrs Carmody all the best in retirement This is tough to see for the assistants who are likely going to be out of a job as everyone has likely already transitioned into a new position this late in the offseason. Looking back at the limited precedent of Coach Kearney who was hired in a late starting process. assistant coaches Daignault and Sanchez were retained. Perhaps because of limited options so late in the game. Past performance is not guarantee of future results, so who knows? The timing will certainly make things interesting

It wouldn't surprise me if part of the deal for the new head coach is retaining at least one of the current assistants.

Does the new AD have the experience to be able to make a good choice for the next coach? I would hope that a committee of former players would also be included in the decision or at least assist the AD with proper questions for the next coach.

Re: retaining incoming recruits- seems obvious that it’s better that the coach retired of his own volition, and wrote a nice valedictory note, than if he got whacked.

All four freshmen are enrolled, and Wade (for one) is on campus. Don't think there's much chance any will walk. If they are enrolled, then they might have to sit a year if they chose to go elsewhere. And that might be tough since HC first would have to grant them permission to talk to other schools - which they might not do until a new coach is onboard and has had a chance to try to re-recruit them.

This may be ADMB's first hire of his career.

It wouldn't surprise me if part of the deal for the new head coach is retaining at least one of the current assistants. It would not be unprecedented. However, that was a case of the athletic department being high on a particular assistant. With a new sheriff in town, it's a little harder to imagine the administration knowing any assistant well enough to go to bat for any individual

Coach Flannery is familiar with the Hart Center Court...and the exit doors.

If they have enrolled, they would have to sit out a year if they transfer

It does seem like Keith Wade is having an itty bitty meltdown about this. Lowder might very well be having second thoughts, too.

I hope the incomings made their commitment to Holy Cross, to HC Basketball and it’s history and tradition, and to their new teammates - and not just to Coach Carmody. I hope they stick to their commitments, that they realize that their commitments have a shelf life of more than four years, and that they realize that those four years will pay great dividends for as long as they live. That being said, I hope and expect that if any of them doesn’t want to honor his commitment, ADMB and the School will release them and wish them well (despite the enormity of their mistake). In Hoc Signo Vinces

The only benefit to this very late decision is that most rosters are set for next year and it would be tough for the freshmen to find a new home. It sure was nice that BC passed out that scholarship on his way out the door.

I wish best of luck to Coach Carmody and his family. The run of 2016 was magic and brought back some buzz to Worcester and Central Mass. Enjoy your time on the Jersey Shore Coach.

The only positive for the incoming Frosh is that this pretty much guarantees they will only play for one head coach over their 4 years. Just not the one they thought they would start with. Hopefully we hire someone who they feel good about and they have a great four years with the new coach. Understandable that the young men and their families would be frustrated right now. Hopefully the process moves forward quickly for all concerned.

To the parents of all the players, congratulations on supporting your sons in attaining Athletic scholarships to the College of the Holy Cross. Holy Cross will meet their obligations to your sons.

It sure was nice that BC passed out that scholarship on his way out the door. You might be surprised at how many schools still have available roster spots. With the incredible number of transfers, programs often find themselves with unexpected openings. For example, Boston U just had an outgoing transfer that leaves it with an opening. And Lehigh, Colgate, and Lafayette likely have an available scholarship as well. I am sure that over 100 D1 programs have at least one available scholarship right now.

Right now the four freshmen are talking with our returning players who are telling them that HC is a special place with a hoops program on the rise and that they can be part of a successful run at HC if they stay the course and don’t panic
