Remember all the hype last year about finally recruiting a top talent to our men's soccer team, Simon Becher. Well, that ended up as a one year deal and he's gone to St. Louis Univ of the A-10. This stinks and further cements our program into the 2nd half of the league again (where there's plenty of HC company) www.nesoccerjournal.com/why-simon-becher-is-transferring-to-saint-louis/

The headline is "Why Simon Becher is transferring to St. Louis," yet no reason is given other than he had a great experience with the team and coaching staff at Holy Cross. We are left to conclude he loves humidity.
This follows the leading scorer on the men's hockey team transferring out. Apparently discontent with the complacent participatory model is not limited to us arm chair fans on Crossports.

Perhaps you should be left to conclude he wanted to play for likely a better team, vs definitely better competition, in definitely better league, for another good school.

"You are correct, sir." -Ed McMahon
My comment was about the article not answering the question the headline posed. These college sports websites are not exactly the New York Times, but still nice to have coverage.

He committed to HC early before he became a part of the U20 National Team pool. To his credit he honored that commitment for a year. My source also tells me that he had a full ride at HC. I suspect that might have been his only full ride offer given he was a late bloomer

When HC was playing Clark and Nichols in soccer, SLU was winning national championships. I gotta believe they still take the sport more seriously than HC does. A bit different than some basketball player transferring to a MAAC school and a weak one to boot👎

If he has aspirations to play pro soccer after graduation, at any level anywhere in the world, obviously the higher the level of college soccer the better.

A bit different than some basketball player transferring to a MAAC school and a weak one to boot👎 They take it a bit more seriously, but they have been worse than the better PL teams in recent years. Looking at the Massey D1 rankings, from 2015 through 2018 they ranked 106th, 195th, 64th, and 82nd. The A-10 this past year was the 15th ranked conference in the nation, while the PL was #19. For comparison, the top two PL teams both ranked in the top 43 in the country in 2018. The previous year saw two PL teams in the top 55. And in 2016, the PL had four top 100 teams, and had all ten teams ranked well ahead of St. Louis.

I think he had plenty of better programs that could find a way to get him a full ride as the college soccer rosters at the highest levels are always changing yearly with kids transferring from a mid major to a major etc...

If a player is more talented than the rest of the team, it is admirable to stick around and try to lift the team from a .300 record to .400, but the players can't be blamed if they have an opportunity to transfer and they take it. Looking forward to ADMB improving competitiveness across the board, but not expecting an overnight turn around.
