Another 65er made a post on another thread: Perhaps one of best nicknames ever: Elbert "Golden Wheels" Dubenion.. This got me thinking--how about a little light-hearted thread on great sports nicknames. Some of the ones that come right to mind for me:
Red Grange, the "Galloping Ghost"
Marvin "The Human Eraser" Webster
Christian Okoye "The Nigerian Nightmare" --I introduced this one to a Nigerian friend, a world champion Paralympics shot putter and discus thrower. He loved it
"Mr October" Reggie Jackson
"Golden Boy" Paul Hornung--lives near me here in The Ville
Dominique Wilkins, "The Human Highlight Reel"
Joe DiMaggio, "The Yankee Clipper"
Maurice "Rocket" Richard and, even better, little brother Henri the "Pocket Rocket" Richard
Have at it--hope this will be fun

I could go for the next 48 hours and still not exhaust the list of great hockey nicknames alone.
Btw, unless I missed it, none of you guys have mentioned Teddy Ballgame Williams.
