A description of one’s status is not the same as a nickname, is it? A nickname can come from any source. Shoeless Joe Jackson, Ed Too Tall Jones, and Randy The Big Unit Johnson come to mind as nicknames that simply describe status. I stand by Non Alum Dave as a valid nickname!

All are certainly valid but they, as you said, “come from” another source. FC is a status for all former coaches. I am not sure that counts as a nickname.

For old-time baseball (or geography) fans.
"Vinegar Bend" Mizell (born across the tracks from Vinegar Bend, Mississippi) "Wahoo" Sam Crawford. Hall of Famer, teammate of Ty Cobb . . . from Wahoo, Nebraska Bill "Ninety-Six" Voiselle. One of the Braves who pitched when Spahn or Sain weren't available, and the pride of Ninety-Six, South Carolina.

Vinegar Bend went on to become a US Congressman for several terms and was no doubt a star in the annual congressional baseball game.
