Sam Ferry spent last season on the Cleveland State staff. Also spent a year at Pitt and six at Monmouth. Didn't play college basketball, but was student-manager during his time at Vanderbilt.

Maybe I'm just getting old, but this seems like a very young staff, from Head Coach to DOBO

Ferry's years as a Vandy student manager paid off for his coaching career. His first job was DOBO at Monmouth, working for King Rice, who was a Vandy assistant during Ferry's time there. Then after moving up to assistant coach there, he was hired by Pitt coach Kevin Stallings, who was the head coach at Vandy while Ferry was there. He actually replaced former Colgate player, Jeremy Ballard, on the Pitt staff.

It is nice to finally have a full staff in place. Personally I could not care less about age (old or young), just about their results and how they bring the players along...individually and as a team.

R.J. was a no brainer, of course. Ferry looks like a really solid get, especially in mid-August.
So let's see, our assistant coaches went to Holy Cross, Northwestern and Vanderbilt.
They ought to be smart enough to figure things out.

The previous staff featured guys from Union, Princeton, Johns Hopkins, and Northwestern - and they weren't smart enough.
Pedigree is highly over-rated.

That cuts both ways. He's probably thinking landing a job at Holy Cross - or any D1 program for that matter - is a really solid get, especially in mid-August after being fired the second week of July from his former job.

Teamwork among the coaches can be every bit as important as teamwork among the players. We'll see what develops.

Curious about the recruiting chops of the group as a whole; whether or not they will have a "wheelhouse" geographical area.

Certainly RJ, and Ferry, in their times, though brief, at Louisville and Pitt, were involved with some national recruiting.

No need to add it, since I was only talking about the prospects that Ferry faced in finding a new job this late in the hiring cycle. I think the general situation at Cleveland State was fairly well known to most on this board, although I thought it was unusual that their AD blamed the problems in dealing with the players on the entire staff, not just Felton.
