Given Blossom's background, I hope to see this made a priority. Some good match ups in the recent past, including a nice win in Worcester (2011? 2012?). Love that our hockey teams went at it in 2014, and that we have these football games on the docket, but would probably be most excited to see an "annual" between these two schools.

I would say highly unlikely. The ACC has gone to 20 conference games, BC is forced to play in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge every year (at least if they avoid last place), and they generally take on 2-3 higher profile (but beatable) opponents OOC. Couple that with these "unbracketed" home matchups with low major teams from all over the country that event organizers saddle power teams with, and there is very little room on BC's OOC schedule each year. Looking at their schedule, it appears that they really only have two games against low majors that they scheduled on their own (CCSU and Albany). BC has scheduled 2 for 1's with Hartford and Fairfield in recent years, and has played Sacred Heart and CCSU fairly regularly in recent years, but other that some recent games with Harvard, have not played any Mass schools in recent years. Apparently they are a fan of the Nutmeg State. It would be nice if Holy Cross, UMass, BC, Northeastern, BU, and Harvard could do another one of those Coaches vs Cancer tripleheaders in the Garden maybe with the opponents rotating every year (though not sure how that would work with HC and BU being in the same conference), but I wouldn't hold my breath.

BC thinks of their program with an elitist mentality because they are in the ACC. They haven't won an NCAA tournament game since 2007.

The triple header at the Garden that was a blast in 2014 was essentially scuttled by BC per a then-UMass beat scribe who I know.

BC offered UNH a 2 for 1 this year with the UNH home game being at SNHU Arena in Manchester. UNH turned it down and offered to play at the Whit which BC said no thank you.

A question from an outsider. Do BC fans feel the same way as members of this illustrious board do about playing each other? I’m assuming the older fans do but I wonder overall how the fan base feels.

The few who attend BC games probably do not care.

Younger BC students and grads are generally not aware of the BC-HC rivalry unless they come from a legacy family and I assume it is similar for HC. An HC classmate who interviewed several recent BC grads for entry level positions in Boston said he finally gave up trying to needle them about the rivalry because he would just get a quizzical look in return. They didn't know what he was referring to.
However, playing BC should give Crusaders of all ages added enthusiasm like playing any other power conference team does.

/\ /\ Quizzical looks indeed! (I posted once regarding the young lady behind the deli counter attending BC who not only never knew there was a BC-HC rivalry in her grandparents’ day [that is not surprising], she was a bright rising junior and had very little awareness regarding the existence of a college called Holy Cross)
Beyond that, I’d like to see us play PC and BC each year in hoops for the same reasons you do.

No! I had the distinct impression the vast majority of BC's ( ACC) fans would just as soon have watched UMass or UNH or Sacred Heart get kicked around out there on the football field last year.. Basketball? BC fan base has no particular interest in playing or not playing HC.

I may disagree here...I am a 2012 alum and distinctly remember a sizable BC student section at the HC - BC game in Worcester (nonetheless!) What I remember about that game is that is was near the start of the season so students were on campus and there was somewhat of a buzz before the game and all of us students heading in on buses to the DCU. Great time.

Glad to hear some BC students made it to Worcester to see their team get thumped 7 or 8 years ago! (No idea how many would go to Harvard, BU, etc.)
Very good point about HC students (such as yourself) and the early season timing (not the dreaded holiday break). I googled to learn there were (reportedly) 3K total fans that night at the DCU at the game...that high mark was only topped by the 3.3K (reportedly) at the Hart center later that year v Bucknell.

I know you are just reporting what someone has said, but wouldn't you agree that it might be a good idea to improve upon your average attendance of 383 per game before making such a purchase? The problem ain't Lundholm.

The problem ain't Lundholm. It’s New England and pro sports country! I have no illusions of grandeur that playing at the Whit will cause a huge bump in attendance as I’m not sure that winning would either. In terms of recruiting it would help UNH tremendously to have the Whit to show recruits. People at UNH come out of it’s a big game such as the AE playoffs that packed Lundholm for our quarterfinal games. UNH is a nationally ranked football program playing in the best conference in the FCS and we still have trouble getting students to come out or if they do their home by halftime as there are many other things college kids want to do. It’s just a different time than a lot of you that went to school years ago remember when pro sports was not king. It is what it is.

I have first hand experience that UNH basketball fans will show up for a marquee program like they did when Florida played at UNH during my sophomore year. That was a fun time to be with the program as we played at Notre Dame, at UConn, at BC, and then Florida in that order iirc

I remember that. Donovan agreed to play at UNH to give Matt Bonner a "home" game. Udonis Haslem was on that team, and 18 years later, is still in the NBA. They also had a very good guard named Nelson who could really fill it up from the outside. I wonder whatever happened to that guy?

His belief was that it would help recruiting to play 4-6 Power schools every year. A foolish idea in my opinion as I'm not sure how getting beat by 35+ a night helps any team. I was at the Florida game and it was a cool experience as I believe Florida was nationally ranked when they came to UNH. It was great that Billy Donovan and Phil developed a friendship and probably helps that in exchange for the home game we played them at least 2 down in Florida.
