Would Flutie start on an All Fitton Field Opponent Team at QB? Second team, third team QB? Can't think of a better college QB we faced at home than BC's Heisman winner (and College HOFer). I've seen him on top 10 and top 20 college QB lists and don't think we played that level QB at home before or since. We don't need to think too long on this one....
Other kids long behind Flutie might be Mickey Beard of Dartmouth and Ron Burton of Colgate.

In my years of watching college football (and sports in general) here in New England very few athletes have had the impact on the region like Doug Flutie did. His Eagles teams were the most popular team, pro, college or whatever) in the area. Was a fun time.
And yes I know this is NOT a popular opinion with some.

Not exactly Flutie level, but NFL journeyman QB Harvard's Ryan Fitzpatrick.

We also shutout future NFL QB Rich Gannon....with the help of Hurricane Gloria in 1985.
Another very good QB who is oft forgotten was/is Steve Joachim from Temple....put a 63 spot on us at Fittion in '73.....pretty high in the Heiman voting that year I believe .
ETA: Joachim won the Maxwell Award in 1974, just checked...drafted but never played much in the NFL

My idle thought goes to who our backup qb is, and is there still competition in practice for the no.1 slot - I would hope that someone is stepping up to be a solid no.2 in case we struggle on offense next week which is highly likely considering the opposition.

There's the dilemma. You can't have a seasoned QB at the helm when we enter league play if he hasn't played consistently. I hope the current starter gets to keep improving unless he starts to regress. He looks like he has room to become quicker and surer. Love to see him progress while beating Yale. It's not fair to the three other QBs, but if CD was the best to begin with and steadily improves, it makes sense to keep playing him. The Yale game will be telling. Hoping for crisper execution all around and HC taking advantage of two tough games under their belt.

Given the thread title (Yale) and the idea of top QBs at Fitton I thought of Brian Dowling (we never played against him - -so forget that) and John Rogan who did come to Fitton and beat us by 1 with his terrific 1981 team.
Heisman-winning and college HOFer Flutie seems to have been by far the best college QB to come to Fitton.

I was at that game and brought many friends with me from Western Mass., none of them HC grads.

Regarding Yale, how high up would Rich Diana be on the list of great opponent running backs at Fitton after his memorable battle vs Gill the Thrill?

Regarding Yale, how how up would Rich Diana be on the list of great opponent running backs at Fitton after his memorable battle vs Gill the Thrill? He'd be right up there. Others that come to mind would be the many from Syracuse: Jim Brown, Larry Csonka, Floyd Little, Ernie Davis; Mike Esposito of bc; JJ Jennings of Rutgers, Marv Hubbard and Mark Van Eeghen of Colgate. Did Yale play in Worcester with Calvin Hill? Paul Metallo of UMass. Zane Dudek of Yale. There's a start

Unless they missed a game, each of these four great should have played at Fitton as Syracuse played at HC in 53,55,58,60,62,64,66 and these stars were on Syracuse as follows Jim Brown= 54-56 Ernie Davis= 59-61 Floyd Little= 64-66 Larry Csonka= 65-67 One other Syracuse running back who likely played at Fitton Field: Jim Nance: 62-64

Laffy frosh QB can throw a bit and run a bit. Not sure it'll be enough but it is certainly possible for a pretty good frosh to start at QB in the PL.
42-27 SHU to end the 3rd.
