First D-1 win of the year for the USA squad. Is this relevant for an exhibition game less than 48 hours after our biggest win in probably three years ?

USA squad lost 2-1 to Providence in overtime and 4-2 to ND with Irish scoring an empty netter. I’m bullish on our team this year.

Attended yesterday's game and was quite impressed with the our team. I know it is early, but this is probably the best team in the Berard era. No more "moronic" players Trapp getting stupid penalties. They were disciplined in all phases of the game. Gordon also looked good. Seems like we have two good goalies. We are quicker on the puck than past years. I hope we can keep up the disciplined play, especially defensively. Ran into Rand Pecknold (Quinnipiac coach). He also indicated the this HC team is the best he has seen in a while. He also said that AIC is "the real deal". The Q beat then twice 3-2, but could have gone the other way. Thursday's game vs Merrimack will be a good test for us. They got absolutely destroyed by Wisconsin 11-5 on Saturday so I am sure they will be "fired up". Good crowd. There were several scouts at the game as well. Young Berard scored 2 goals. He should have committed to HC, not Providence!! The game could have gone either way as well.

You do know Berard’s other kid is also committed to Providence right? Berard’s mother also played field hockey at Providence. So maybe they want to play at the highest level and not for their father. Pooley could have coached his kid at ND but he went to Holy Cross. The Riley family and Army, it happens both ways....

I do know that. However, my point is that HC needs that type of player (goal scorer), which they lack

There are plenty of potential goal scorers out there. You just have to find them and develop them. Players like Rissmiller, Sixsmith, Napert-Frenette, McGregor, etc. I am not that naive to think we will be getting drafted players any time soon. We had a real good one last year (Matt Barry), but not a good kid from what I hear. Those type of players make a huge difference. The type of player that has the vision and offensive instinct that cannot be taught. Berard's kid was just an example of the type of player we need .

When I was in high school (at a Catholic school in Mass.) it was unheard of for anyone outside of the star players for CM and BC High to make the jump directly to Division 1 (especially Hockey East/WCHA). Prep stars from places like Milton, St. Sebastian's, Avon, and Kimball Union often made the jump. I had a number of friends who had D1 interest but were told to play a year of prep as a PG. Today, some coaches at the highest level want guys playing in the USHL or for the NTDP for a year even after 3 seasons in a prep league like the ISL or Founder's. It seems like Hockey East coaches look for an older, mature, and well-developed recruiting class. Yes, there will be one or two guys who need some developing and might choose to be a role player on the 4th line at BC rather than be a 2nd liner in Atlantic Hockey, but by and large, coaches are demanding more development. Our varsity head coach at the school I currently coach at was shocked by a DIII NESCAC coach asking a prep player to do a year of juniors! Long story short, I think schools like Holy Cross wind up doing a bit of development themselves (which is why a team like AIC has probably reached an apex) and greater recruiting. Just a thought!

Oh and one more thing...the US NTDP is very good! A good percentage of their roster will be playing for superb Hockey East, Big Ten, NCHC programs! One of our former goalies was the starter for them against HC stopping 29/31
