What a challenge Nelson has inherited.

Wow, when was the last time (if ever) we have seen HC last in Men's hoops?

The one prediction I will make is barring injuries, HC will not finish last in the PL. (I have already said a few weeks ago, the Crusaders will not finish last in the country in rebounding so put me down for two predictions).

Last year watching our first game with Loyola I thought they were a very weak team. As the season progressed they improved and became more competitive in the league. See a similar performance by HC this year.

New coach, new system, Freshman who will play....Nobody can tell what will happen! I do believe HC will be the surprise team of the year!

Not only 10th, but a fairly distant 10th
21 points with a minimum of 18. Not a lot of dissension out there. HC is pretty much a consensus projection for the cellar

Many unknowns about this team! Based on what they lost, however, it probably is a fair placement before the first tip, IMHO t is a team with significant upside over the course of the entire season

Does suggest that perhaps we should cast a tad more critical eye to our recruiting classes instead of the excessive happy talk which has occurred on this board in years past.

No worries here on this score. After all, the pre-season poll has no real meaning and does not impact record in any way. How many remember FCSK's team picked to finish first?

I think the preseason poll has the projected finish of the teams about right. In known returning talent we are definitely behind everyone else. Hopefully there is hidden talent on the roster that will come to the forefront and prove the prognosticators wrong. I think Loyola has a chance to be very good if there highly touted Euro frosh is as good as advertised.

Probably a combination of: (1) very different group doing the preseason voting; and (2) Burns and Ivanauskas splitting the votes that didnt go to Nelson. You may recall that Nelson was also the preseason player of the year last year, so there are clearly a number of voters who value his play. It is extremely unlikely that any voter factored in any thoughts of one player getting better or another player getting worse.

I think a couple of the magazines (among Lindy's, Athlon, Sporting News) had Rapolas as projected POY.

I think Loyola has a chance to be very good if there highly touted Euro frosh is as good as advertised. HC was a 10th place team that lost 2/3 of its scoring. I'm not sure where else an objective person would place them. Polls are based on knowns. This is a team full of unknowns. The currently projected starters include two freshmen and a kid who has seen 20 minutes of college ball. Besides that, new systems on both O and D. In terms of projections unknowns are bad. Maybe some of those unknowns are diamonds in the rough. That includes a coach who is not only new to us, but has never been a head coach anywhere else

I think a couple of the magazines (among Lindy's, Athlon, Sporting News) had Rapolas as projected POY. Eight of the last ten POYs have been bigs (and all of the last ten conference champs have had a big who was POY and/or 1st team all-conference). Who was the last point guard to win POY?
