Thought this deserved its own thread. I am thoroughly embarrassed and had to explain it to many non alum friends who were laughing their butts off. This is a complete disgrace and embarrassment! What’s even worse was the College was selling merchandise of the “offensive logo” at the team store in the open end zone. I bought two items (try to stock up on as much offensive mascot gear as possible) that they were more than happy sell. This school will NEVER get it....

I bought what appeared to be the last Crusader logo baseball cap at the PL baseball tournament at Fitton.
Are they selling more now?

Yes and every customer is told it's the last cap.😊
Actually don't know.

I can’t see ADMB making the call to put the potted plants out in front of the logo. Must have came from the top or Phil Bouroughs. We have become a laughing stock.

If we can go to the lengths required to replace the Crusader with the shield at midcourt of the Hart Center, then why can't we remove some banners from a fence.

For goodness sakes, you guys have this all wrong.
The "potted plants" are not there to hide anything, they are part of the campus "green initiative" to help reduce our carbon footprint.
Such cynics!

Surprised that no one noticed the plants during the UNH game.

Where are these plants, exactly? And why could they not remove the old Crusader Logo?

The plants are in the corners of the closed end of the stadium. The Crusader logo is also on the home side behind the team standing area.

I saw the picture yesterday on the game thread and I cannot imagine (even at HC nowadays) the small potted plant is there to block the knight's shield from delicate eyes. The knight itself is the symbol that a few imagine offends and "others" the most delicate folks as I recall. So the shrub would need to be much taller if that was the intent. Maybe somebody thinks it looks good or it is hiding a microphone or camera or something.

And yes, they were there at the UNH game as well. Just silliness

A young Jesuit, recently ordained, who said mass at Georgetown this morning saw me afterwards and indicated how sad it was for Holy Cross to walk away from its tradition. He added once the baby boomers go it will see a big drop-off in terms of contributions and support. Then asked how the alumni were reacting.
No way of knowing how many in the Jesuit community might agree with him, no way of knowing if his assumptions about the future are valid, but found it interesting he would say anything at all.

I think you people are misreading this.
Note that the plant is an evergreen shrub. Many varieties of evergreens have a pitch/sap that is kind of sticky. The purpose of the plant is not to hide anything, but if a player "accidentally" touches the plant with his hands, he might do a better job of holding onto the ball

I hope this is my final comment. Why are the bushes in planters rather than directly into the ground unless the intent is to move them at some point?

Then they invented receiving gloves. Which, IMHO, make comparisons between receivers of today with those of the past difficult. One handed catches are now commonplace.

Georgetown has walked away from its tradition of selling human beings to pay the bills, so I guess they have changed too. I imagine that their giving from racists is off. The point is, things change and this Jebbie will find, they will even change in the Church. If the potted plants were designed to block the Crusader image, they did a lousy job. Why not just buy some new banners?

Too simple. Why do simple when more complicated methods are available?
Put a plant there to placate the vocal snowflakes and do it so halfheartedly that the Crusader can still be seen by any who like it.

After the game, I saw a trailer drive out with many potted plants like that. Still seems silly, but I'm guessing there were others - probably equally spaced and the one people saw just wound up in front of the banner
I'm with the other Tom (the one from Warwick)'s spin on the guy in armor
It fits so nicely with the school's mission there would be no need to hide a banner behind a plant
