Putting this news here rather than General Discussion because we talked a bit about this on the Week 8 Pick 'em thread ... A Provincial was named for the New USA East Province of Jesuits. As we discussed on that thread, the Maryland and Northeast Provinces are merging next year to form the USA East Province and the new Provincial Fr. Joseph M. O'Keefe, SJ, jesuits.org/news-detail?TN=NEWS-20191024122713NYKNENPROVUSAFr. O'Keefe is a Holy Cross graduate - Class of 1976. Hevalso has an MA in French from Fordham (1980) and he's currently the Scholar in Residence at the Fordham University Graduate School of Education. He was also on the Holy Cross BOT from 1999 - 2007 serving as Chair of the Academic Affairs committee for at least part of that tenure. So he's got strong connections to 2 of the 3 schools. And I imagine he's attended a meeting ot 2 at Georgetown. What better way to build a little esprit de corps within the new province than a little friendly "intramural" competition! Fr. O'Keefe - institute the Provincial's Cup beginning with play next year!

And Fr. O'Keefe would present the trophy with a Theme Song being played by the winning team's band ...

I don't know, another cup/trophy might cheapen the value of the Turnpike Trophy and that Patriot thingy (whatever it is called).

Careful guys, you don't want to be going all Bob Diacco on this. (Anyone know where the Civil Conflict Trophy is now?)

So, my recollection about being told by the current provincial that there would be a merger with Maryland was not a phantom memory (whew!).
Second, I will have to do some research on the family tree to see if he is a cousin (2nd, 3rd,once-removed, all that) as I have many relatives on my mother's side who reside in Worcester (Mom was first cousins with long time, late great Worcester city clerk, Bob OKeefe). If this Jesuit went to HC and if he has Worcester roots, I think we are related. Will research later to see if he is a Worcester guy.

I vote for a replica of the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch for the Provincial Trophy.
Antioch was captured during the First Crusade (by Bohemond I (Mark de Hauteville) ancestral first cousin twice removed) so the Holy Hand Grenade is of crusader origin, and one cannot fail to note the presence of the Knights Templar cross, knights in crusader helmets, etc. in the quest. And the Holy Hand Grenade comes with its own scriptural incantations, which the provincial may choose to recite.
This is as it should be, given Holy Cross' sponsorship of the trophy. The Holy Lance was also recovered from Antioch but the church declared it to be a fake in the 19th Century. We'll have to make do with a replica of the Holy Hand Grenade.

Note in that video clip ... Tim the Enchanter is clearly a Fordham Fan.

Nice Ram horns...but Tim was still outnumbered by Crusaders (note the Templar crosses)...and, after all, they did have the Holy Hand Grenade.

That scene actually captures all 3 teams well ... Crusaders, Rams, & Hoyas ... after all Hoyas is supposedly derived from Hoya Saxa which means What Rocks! So if the Holy Grail name and the Holy Hand Grenade trophy design fail, we can play for Tim The Enchanter's ... Staff ?!?
