In our Holy Cross regalia, we were surrounded by drunks spilling their beer and gravity caused rivers of brew under our feet and my little son said "Daddy, how come everyone is rooting for the other team." I hope beer is never sold inside of Fitton Field stadium. Potentially too much of an liability and sociability risk for fans, especially for those who want a family friendly atmosphere. I want to enjoy the game without having to think about a cleaning bill or not being able to go out to dinner afterwards because someone spilled their beer on my ‘sader gear.😡😤 Let those who need to have a beer while at a football game, enjoy theirs on Freshmen Field or on the baseball field. I rather see the game with my synapses clear, and not fearing a DUI stop on 290 or the Mass Pike. My apologies for digressing off topic, I just picked up on sader1970’s bad experience.

Re: Syracuse: Actually, there was a game at Archbold in which we did kick deep. The 'cuse fumbled on their own 2-3 yard line. HC recovered the fumble and scored on the ensuing play. A Syracuse student sitting next to me said words to the effect "Ya' shouldn't have done that." He repeatedly said "A Little goes a long way." The stadium began to chant over and over "A Little goes a long way." I felt we were in the Circus Maximus witnessing the Romans' slaughter of hapless Christian martyrs. I kept my agitation to myself. We kicked off long. Floyd Little fielded the ball. He ran the length of the field for the td. As I normally do I checked the field. Almost every HC player had been leveled by the Syracuse blockers. The crowd erupted and continued their chant " A Little..." My Archbold seat "neighbor" sitting next to me in an effort at sportsmanship said to the effect, "Its OK. Holy Cross is an Ivy type school. Syracuse plays at a much higher level. I had two words for him and they weren't happy birthday. Once again, I kept my thoughts to myself. At the end of the game in true HC fashion I congratulated the kid with a terse "Nice game." instead of giving him the two words that were in my mind. Clearly, we were outclassed. Nothing else, no words really mattered on that day. LoveHC " Clearly, we were outclassed." WHOA there. sounds like we were outplayed by a better football team. this does not mean that we were "outclassed"

I recognize that this thread is going off the rails but in case anyone else is curious, I looked back in the archives re: Syracuse. In my 4 years, we played the Orange 3 times (no '69 game for obvious reasons). Results were: '66 (H) lost 28-6 (Czonka/Little game) '67 (A) lost 41-7 '68 (H) lost 47-0 - this is the game, I believe, when they went for the time-running-out field goal so I was being conservative when I said they called time out with a 20 point lead in order to kick the field goal. It must have been a 44 point lead. But pleased to say that in my 4 years, here's how we did against them in basketball: '66 (A) lost 91-81 '67 (H) won 95-79 '68 (A) won 88-80 '69 (H) won 104-89 As to the NIT game in the demi-dome, it was on 3/16/81 (my son would have just turned 5) and it was not the opening NIT round (we beat Southern Mississippi 56-54 4 days before) and was the second round of the NIT and lost big, 77-57. Ugh! And for those who care about NBA players from Holy Cross, Garry Witts was one of the co-captains of that team. If I am following you and "69" in basketball is 69-70, then HC won the next two years as well..70-71 and 71-72 (might have been the day Jack D announced he wasn't returning the next year, either that or the Fordham game which was a good win as well). The 70-71 win was one of very, very few SU losses at Manley that decade.

Correct because we played the Orange in the first half of each season except obviously the NIT game where I gave the specific date.

hoops, I didn’t look it up, but my recollection was Syracuse was not especially good in basketball in those days. Certainly not PC, St. John’s or even BC so not sure those wins qualify as “quality wins.”
Syracuse was the quintessential “football factory” and we were still in the “entertainment business.” 😊
