Or one of those “borderline” players does not have a scholarship. Thus only one of those five has or will have a scholarship in 20-21 True. The math also works if only one of the guys on my borderline list is currently on scholarship.

Lovisolo. Walk on 6’9. He decided to transfer due to no PT.

He played at Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey. He was on a very good team, but was not one of their top 2 or 3 players.

Scholarship status of potential 2020-21 roster: 100% certainty they’re on scholarship: 1. Martindale 2. Rabinovich 3. Humphrey 4. Pridgen 5. Wade 6. Lowder 7. Hargis 8. Niego 9. Copeland 10. Butler 11. Faw That leaves two scholarships among Reilly, Yeutter, Hart, Verbeek, Sandy. Most believe that Reilly and Verbeek are on scholarship. WG says he thinks Sandy is also on scholarship. All three of those guys cannot be on scholarship but it doesn’t really matter which two it is. If we’re adding another 2020, someone on scholarship is leaving or one of the borderline scholarship guys is losing a scholarship. Verbeek signed an NLI as did the other 11 listed

It's already been asked why a kid planning to leave would want to be still playing; I'm also wondering why a coach would want to play the kid? As John Lennon said, strange days indeed.

OK, my response, fully intending to be "snarky," is that lately I don't even watch Holy Cross games, at least not live (some know why).
I stand by my prior post. As they say, you can't teach height. Carmody couldn't give a rat's behind about getting rebounds. Hopefully Nelson does. We need a much better inside game and that's not going to happen with 6'3" guards (or less in our case).
You need to complement quick guard play with someone who is going to get a rebound and start the fast break. Not all missed shots are going to carom out to the 3 point arc. In fact, most don't. And you can do very well with only 2, 3 or 4 guys speeding down court plus 1 slow poke.
Ray, I'm not looking for 10 guys over 6'8", but how about 1 or 2 that have not just height (Verbeek has plenty of that) but as they used to say about stewardess' qualifications (acknowledged politically incorrect term, we're talking historically here) "weight proportionate to height."

We have a 6’10-11 2020 commit who fills that description.

He played at Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey. He was on a very good team, but was not one of their top 2 or 3 players. And then did a post-grad year at Blair Academy. He was not one of their top three players either.

We have a 6’10-11 2020 commit who fills that description. And need more of the same.
Don't watch much basketball outside the PL anymore, but just take a look at the teams that have been successful in this conference forever. They all feature one or more high quality bigs (most of the PoYs the last ten years have been front-court players) who not only score, but rebound and defend inside. Holy Cross doesn't have them - when we were successful, we did. A bunch of guys 6-5 and under running around ain't gonna get it done without some complementary size inside. Don't need aircraft carriers - Floyd types will due nicely.
Pat Whearty isn't walking through the door - neither is Keith Erickson nor the early '60s, when you could succeed with a 6-5 center.

Reilly is an interesting situation. He was headed to Exeter for a PG year. He chose to enroll at HC and join the BB team. Is it considered honorable for the coach to level with the player and his family and say because of two unexpected transfers, there is a scholarship available for this year but probably not for the next three and the player could make an informed decision to take the one scholarship year in hand, save the tuition at Exeter and shave one year off the time needed to get a B.A.? To me, as long as everybody was clear and honest that would be a win/win arrangement if both parties saw the benefit to themselves and made an informed decision.

Out of HS he was offered by Bucknell and Lehigh. why wouldn’t HC be open to his transfer ? Maybe they would, but it's moot since he already committed to Colgate. It took them 36 hours after he entered the portal. Langel is very proactive seeking transfers and clearly is a strong closer. Evtimov committed late to Western Carolina - several weeks after the late signing period began. Also after many of his offers, including the one from Bucknell, were off the table. He lasted all of seven weeks at Western Carolina. In theory, he won't be eligible at Colgate until mid-December of 2020, but I would be surprised if he doesn't get an NCAA waiver to play all of next year.
