Sebastien Lamaute had an offer from us. He was on campus for a visit early in November. Might be worth keeping his name in the mix here, especially based on today's development.

If Lovisolo does transfer, he can get a written release from HC saying he can get immediate eligibility...The NCAA has to agree to this, but it seems it would be a no brainer....zi know, it's the NCAA..... He won’t be allowed to play this year, even with a HC waiver. NCAA has made it fairly clear that a player cannot play for two teams in one season. However there is a good chance he would be allowed to play without having to sit out the fall semester next year. Lovisolo is playing this year.

Lamaute's most recent mixtape
Impressive skills and athleticism, regardless the level of competition

Really like how Lamaute combines size and quickness, and how he plays through contact. His "offer" from Holy Cross was from last summer, but does not show up on VC.

point guard is obviously now the most glaring need in this program.
what transpired this week has chapped me beyond all description as the reality is that we are very unlikely to land a player of lowder's immediate ability next year. and then there's the rest of this season... it's disappointing having to *hope* that an incoming freshman pg will be a baller, when we had one who was a difference maker in literally game one, but hope springs eternal and i hope whoever we bring in does whatever it is nelson is seeking in practice and can contribute on the court immediately.
this kid definitely has great size and looks physical, but i have to wonder why we are his only offer? level of competition maybe?

Honestly, have no idea whether we are still interested in him at this point - as noted, nobody else has apparently offered him. There are undoubtedly some other PGs the staff is looking at.

A good point, dado.
A big part of coaching these days, especially with the transfer epidemic, is managing the expectations, egos, and attitudes of your players.
On the one hand, I can understand Nelson having the mindset that it’s “my way or the highway”, but if how he managed Lowder was a primary reason for his decision to transfer, then that’s a little disappointing.
Perhaps it was just a bad fit from day one. We need to remember Nelson didn’t recruit one kid on this roster. Maybe he wouldn’t have recruited Lowder.
All this is really just pure speculation. We don’t know what happened outside of what we see on the floor during a game.

Has everyone forgotten that Lowder, despite his clear scoring prowess had real difficulty with defense, with recurring injury and (perhaps) attitude?
I am sure the coaches have been working to get someone in the pg position. After all, recruiting is one of their major jobs! I look forward to seeing what they come up with.

Half wild speculation filling the void from lack of information and half playing devil's advocate, but. . .
Originally we all thought Reilly was on scholarship. I mean why else would someone planning to prep for a year do an about face and go straight to college. The big draw of prep school is to get a better D-I offer. It just seems strange someone actively looking for a D-I offer would stop trying and walk on.
Then Montgomery gets an offer and we decide that our assessment was wrong and Reilly had to be a walk-on because it looked like there were too many scholarships out there.
Is it possible that Coach Nelson learned of Lowder's plans earlier than we did and that the extra offer was for Lowder's spot? Maybe Reilly is on scholarship and the offer makes 13.
Lowder is off the website. Copeland is still on it. There is nothing concrete to say Copeland won't be back next year or even next week.
It's fun to speculate about players out there, but we don't even know if we have an opening
Just sayin'

Lowder was the cool shiny new toy with some flashy offense, but didn’t show he could play defense, had a recurrence of an injury that caused schools to back off his recruitment less than halfway through his freshman year, and had a lot of development to become a complete PG.
The idea that he was a savior for the program is foolish. The idea that Nelson should have bowed down to him to beg him to stay at HC is even more foolish.
Nelson has already shown that he can recruit at or above the level of Lowder, and I hope he keeps that rolling, this time bringing in a PG who is actually a good fit for his vision for the program.
If we enter next year with a new culture beginning to be established, two more frosh on the level of the three we already have, and Pridgen & Wade returning as sophomores, the 2-3 year rebuild for Nelson will be on the right track.

We don't know all sides of the story but it sure seemed like Lowder was a yo-yo on a string and the string was tied around Nelson's finger. If Nelson's coaching approach made Drew Lowder a better basketball player, some other school is going to benefit from the coaching HC payed for.

Talking to coaches in the IL/PL/A10 (1 each) they believe over the course of the year they spend as much as 50% of their time re-recruiting and managing their current roster and parent expectations. It has always been an important skill set and part of the college game but today coaches might need a degree and training in psychology.

I would think that on the recruitment trail the current state of the program will be spun by HC’s coaches to reflect an opportunity for a gifted recruit to get to play early. The player may not get that chance at other D1 schools. What’s happening is hard to watch in the short term but may not necessarily bad in the long term. The old program is basically being washed away right now. One thing is for certain - it will take considerable time to be successful.

Speaking of overstated, Lowder’s recruiting profile matched that of Phil Beans — MAC offers. Only when compared to the huge dip in recruiting that we witnessed over the past 4-5 years does he look overly impressive. While it is doubtful that Nelson can find a PG who can score as much as Lowder would have next year, he should be capable of bringing in a more complete PG who is committed to the program and committed to contributing to a new culture.

If we are looking at a complete turnaround of the program that is sustainable year after year, yes it will take time. But if you are able to bring in a 6’8 version of Pridgen, and a point guard with the quickness and defensive ability of a S Nelson, who we go against today, I think you can have a successful season within the next two years.

I think Brett has “potential” as a coach, just lije Lowder had potential as a player. I am not sure we won or lost any games this year that would have had a different result had Carmody or even Milan had been coaching.
While I don’t follow recruiting as closely as many do here, I thought Lowder was 3* and not aware of any incoming recruits rated that high by Nelson. While those stars are not the be all and end all, its indicative. So while you can argue that his recruits may be as good as Carmody’s, right now there is no basis for saying he’s recruiting on a higher level.
And I do question his timing choice of timeouts. Case in point, with something like 3 minutes left down 8-9, he calls his last one right after Matt sinks a 3 pointer. Yes, as 8485 said at the game, we screwed up on a defensive play just before Matt’s shot but it was the same screw up that was happening all game including the first half when he could have counseled the team earlier.
I know nothing about Lowder’s transfer and he had his defensive lapses but beyond his shooting, the offense ran better when he was at point than when Austin does. Might be more because it takes AB away from his strength more than the benefit of Drew at point.
Let’s not trash Lowder for his choice/decision. We don’t know the true story. I wouldn’t trash Brett over it either.
As in almost everything in life, likely not a black and white situation and may be something that both could have done better for a better outcome.
