NU has our number - last game of first semester tonight and they lead us 6-0 halfway through 3rd period - that’s 17-zip over last two games

The jump from the NEWHA to Hockey East was substantial. At the end of the season last year, I opined about the schedule. Rather than schedule a bunch of non-conferences at the beginning of the year, I thought they should have sprinkled a few non-conference series or games around the more difficult parts of the schedule. I said the same thing at the beginning of this year. Play St. Lawrence before/after some of the more difficult opponents. If nothing else, it can help all players gain playing experience and work on improving player's morale and perception of themselves. Their HE games are more than sufficient to challenge them to rise above their playing level. The CHA (Lindenwood, Mercyhurst, Penn State, RMU, Syracuse, RIT) could provide good non-conference opposition. There are ample Atlantic Hockey connections with Mercy and RMU as well as commissioner Bob DeGregorio. When the team is competing for a bubble spot in the NCAA tournament, then we can argue about the strength of our non-conference schedule. Imagine finishing the semester with the sweep of Merrimack (or HE opponent Vermont) or Lindenwood.

FYI, they could have played the non-NCAA eligible conference schools like Franklin Pierce, LIU, St A’s early in the year too!

That would have made for a less abrupt transition to D-1/HE.

Where is their league affiliation landing spot?

I, for one, am not supportive of watering down the schedule just to get some wins. The College made the decision to go play with the "big boys", OK, "big girls," and they will take their lumps until the talent level improves.
They have already had some wins, not many, but some. They will improve over time.

Where is their league affiliation landing spot? There is a new D-1 women’s conference called the NEWHA which is LIU, Sacred Heart, St. Michaels, St. Anselm’s, Post, and Franklin Pierce. They will have an NCAA auto bid in a couple of years.

Some would say we are automatically better off in the Women's HE than in this new league because of the prestige of HE and the aspirational benefit of playing in a power conference.
However if this new league will have an auto bid and HCWH could have more easily transitioned it's great winning era into this new league and competed regularly for championships that has merit, too.
It looks like the timing was a couple of years off, but it would have been an interesting choice if an invite to both leagues was available at the same time.

Kind of like making a choice between the Big East and the Patriot League, right?

I am glad to see the new opportunities for women in hockey, but I like where we are! It's going to be interesting to follow the progress of HC women's hockey. None of the more successful teams in HE are going to voluntarily surrender their place above HC in the standings so success will have to be earned. Our coaches will deserve much praise if they build a winning program in HE.

I would rather our young men and women falter early on in a prestigious & formidable conference like Hockey East for a few short years than dominate, ebb and flow in some generic newly formed Piker conference with low rent schools just for the sake of maybe winning a league Championship. Total Bollocks! This is the equivalent discussion we'd all be having in 1979 as it pertains to Hoops. Drop the Mic...

Total Bollocks! This is the equivalent discussion we'd all be having in 1979 as it pertains to Hoops. Drop the Mic... And remember, Hockey East women’s conference is less than 20 years old and has never won a national title. So prestigious might be a little bit of an overstatement as the conference squads have failed at the national level every year.

Since you put it that way, the prestige must rub off the heritage of the Men's Hockey programs in HE. But that doesn't score any goals on the ice.
