Band is often more animated than the cheerleaders. But the cheerleaders are great, too. It's a plus when any of the Band, Cheerleaders, Dance team or even youth teams playing at halftime are present.
I applaud resources being spent to support them and put the band and cheerleaders in the steak category, not sizzle.

For the record, the band has now taken a leading role in the You You You chants..

I spoke as a life-long musician having played in both pep bands and marching bands (not at HC). I was addressing the quality of their playing, not their enthusiasm, etc., which is outstanding. Cheerleading, relative to other PL schools, is worse than HC's band.

Earlier, you were commenting on "resources" provided by the admin. When that got refuted, you double-down by attacking the talent of the band members? Come on, be less of a jerk.

"Be less of a jerk". Good one. Back to the women's game v. Bucknell. They won only because they were less of a bad team. HC would have won the game if the quality of their play had been just "fair". The fourth quarter was atrocious for both teams.

You are quite right. That 4th quarter was almost unbelievable. While there were a few good plays (on defense mostly), the overall level of HC';s play was far below what we saw earlier in the season.

Yes, very ugly play by both teams in the fourth quarter. Pretty sure it was also Bucknell's worse offensive quarter of the year. Both teams were without its PG's for a good part of the quarter, which may have contributed to it. Looks like Marly Walls may have a torn ACL, and I couldn't tell about LaBarbera. Head?

Avery appeared to be up and standing during the last HC time out huddle if memory serves. Hope she doesn't have a concussion.

As most of you know, both of my kids played in the band so I’m biased. So, with that as disclaimer ... I can’t speak to cheerleaders but the band is marginal compared to what? The sound of a Big 10 band? Sure. The fact that it exists makes it far less marginal compared to most PL schools or any other school with 2500 - 4000 students. How were the Fordham, Georgetown and Colgate bands at halftime of their football games year? Right. They don’t have marching bands. How was the Colgate pep band in the NCAA basketball tournament last year? Oh that’s right they didn’t go and Colgate did what many other schools do in the tournament and used one of the other school’s band in Colgate shirts as a ringer. Salary for the director was bumped up about 5 years ago so that the last 2 directors (covering 5 years) hold terminal degrees in music with extensive backgrounds in marching bands and music education. The school made an investment in the position. And for the record, the band is a Student activity and is primarily funded through that office, not Athletics. As a student activity, there are math, biology, physics, English, history, psychology, etc. majors with at most a couple of music majors. As such the members of the band do not do it because they get course credit (like bands a bigger schools), performance experience for a career or something else related to music after college. They are volunteers and I can say definitively that all members do it because they enjoy it and being with one another. For the last 10 years the students in the band have shown up for FB, Men’s & women’s BB and hockey when few others would. And they exhibit far more enthusiasm in their cheering and playing through thick and (mostly) thin than anyone else in the gym or stadium. Ask anyone who attends the games. Attendance has waned a bit in recent years, but 10 years of, at best, mediocre on field performance will test a group’s collective resolve and enthusiasm. So with that understood, if that makes the band marginal, I’ll still take them over anyone else’s band because I have known the kids involved since 2012 and they represent a lot of what is right about Holy Cross, add to the game day environment and they actually do sound pretty good too. Perfectly said. I think this response, coupled with the advice Ray provided, are my top two favorite posts of the year so far.

What was the 2019 post of the year ? Couldn't tell you a specific one off the top of my head. I go through periods where I don't pay much attention to the forums because the level of toxicity is so high and I find myself getting pulled into it. I have too much on my plate to invest a lot of time here. Maybe it's in a thread somewhere about how bad the Patriot League is for Holy Cross, or in another lamenting the turned-down invitation from the Big East, or maybe in one asking about the Hockey East invite for the men or how HC is merely a seminary. That should cast a wide enough net.

Not only "wide", but "long" as well. After all there have been posts on those topics for several years.

Just watched the game, kept away from knowing the results for 2 days ....
That was horrible. Part of it was Bucknell's strong defense. But the larger part was HC simply not playing offensively at an acceptable level. Case in point: Bucknell was down a player because of an injury at the other end; the best shot HC could get was a contested 10 footer.
Foul shooting was terrible Gibbons' last year or two and is still terrible. Is that the players or the coaches (granted, Coach Mac could have been in charge of that specific phase of the game and that's the problem; doubt it)?

Don't know who coaches foul shooting but do remember Ralph Willard being grilled about poor free throw shooting at a coaches night at O'Connors Restaurant.
He responded: "I am remiss, I forgot to introduce my wife Dot who is here tonight. Stand up please Dot."
The crowd cheered Dot. Then Ralph finished his response to the questioner's inquiry about poor free throw shooting: "Dot is in charge of free throw shooting."

Lighten up, Francis.
I know you’re an atheist, but I hope you believe in SOME kind of afterlife because it seems pretty clear from your posts here, that you have no fun in THIS life. Sheesh! 🙄

Agree with 8485, Gee Whiz!
Come on Man!........
Ralph’s reply made me chuckle. I’m sure it did to many in the audience including Dot.

For those who were watching the game and are curious as to the outcome, the player down on the court was Bucknell's starting PG Marly Walls. Unfortunately her MRI showed a torn ACL and a torn MCL. Obviously out for the season.

Name from the film Stripes. Francis was a very uptight member of the unit. He gats. intense at a squad meeting and the Sgt tells him "Lighten up, Francis." It needs to be seen to be understood incontext.
