I listened to Coach Nelson on the radio post game show. Even though it was immediately after a loss, he appeared to be so much more upbeat and positive than I had heard him all season. To me it sounded like he was, for the first time in a while, looking forward to tomorrow’s practice. I might be wrong but my guess is that he and Lowder just were not a good mix and, with that situation now settled, he feels like a burden has been lifted off his shoulders and is excited to move forward with the team. Be interested to hear if any other listeners came away with the same impression. I have been out of the loop on Lowder. How has the situation finally settled?

He’s off the team; moving on; looking to transfer.

Yes, I just didn't understand the "apologies to the Long Island native" post.

Often when one cites some source, he politely/sarcastically offers his apologies

Be interested to hear if any other listeners came away with the same impression. Didn't hear the interview; but years ago I helped take over a perennial losing inner city football team. We had some great hoop players on our team; unfortunately, very few of them could play football. Our numbers were down, and we needed them more than they wanted us. There were constant conflicts, missing practices, attitudes; finally, a couple of them said they quit - fully expecting to get their asses kissed to get them back. We weren't winning many games anyway, so we said "to hell with them" and went with what we had. I would love to tell you that we won the rest of our games - we didn't; but the coaches and the players thoroughly enjoyed the rest of the year and were more successful in later years. I don't know what happened with DL, and sorry to see him go; but sometimes that's the best thing for everybody.

With no commentary about the departure of Lowder, 81's story reminds me of the recently posted video of Gene Hackman playing 4 on 5 rather than let the kids run the show

In summation — We can lose with you and we can lose without you.

Re: Mary Hopkin (no "s"), boy she made a ton of albums considering most of us (including me) probably have heard only 2 or 3 of her songs, tops.

Like the earlier two departures we know precious little if anything about how this came about, but as I learned as a child it takes two or more for something like this to happen.
What we do know is we have games to play, and the coach and team want to win. It is time for the team to focus on what they can control and march forward.
The good thing about basketball is it only takes a couple of additions, sometimes one great player, to help change the view

In summation — We can lose with you and we can lose without you. First credited to Branch Rickey when he took over the then-awful Pittsburgh Pirates in reaction to the salary demands (compared to now, of course, a pittance even in 1952 dollars) of slugger Ralph Kiner, who went on to fame after his career ended as the daffy broadcaster for the NY Mets.

Would love to find out what happened and why.

However, I am willing to bet if our sources were still around we probably wouldn't be discussing this topic on the board.

I wish it were a generation ago, too. I've got other reasons.
