Do you think anyone on Campus outside of the Luth occupants, is really concerned about the success or lack thereof as of late, of what I believe is viewed as the marque sport on campus. If not the top sport it is certainly one of them. When is the last time our President was at a men’s basketball game. Obviously he and his lieutenants could be big supporters of the program and never attend a game. Say what you want about Father Brooks and his moves about the athletic program but he and his great friend, Fr. Miller, attended just about every home football and basketball game and many road games as well. I get the feeling many occupants of Fenwick over the last 25 years have had almost no interest in the success or failure of men’s basketball. I think they have been missing a great opportunity to promote the college.

I don't recall seeing him other than at Homecoming.
The president goes around to alumni gatherings all over the country, usually at this time of year. That is a part of the reason for his absence

Actions are more important than symbolic gestures. Hopefully he is doing something to make Blossom's and Nelson's jobs easier. Not that I'm aware of any.

If the BU game were a symbolic gesture, he would not have stayed until the end.

To a large extent, basketball put Holy Cross on the map. To a lesser extent, it can do so again if TPTB including the Board of Trustees, want to see that happen. Ralph Willard’s teams in ‘01, ‘02 and ‘03 shone a light nationally on Holy Cross.

If the BU game were a symbolic gesture, he would not have stayed until the end. Does sitting at the Hart Center for two hours during a basketball game mean that he cares about athletics?

I think they have been missing a great opportunity to promote the college. Absolutely correct. The only reason scholarships were reinstituted was due to a group of alums who were tired of seeing HC basketball drop down to one of the worst programs in the nation. You think those in Fenwick really cared? In fact, too much success might be viewed as a bad thing. The last thing they want is for HC to be viewed as a "sports school."

Quick. Name one thing about the school that has improved during Fr. B’s tenure. Ideally, this thing helps us attract better students and improves our name recognition and standing among our peers.

Three things, though you may give partial/more credit to previous administrations 1-Luth 2- the Jo 3- PPAC

All buildings which came from benefactors that were going to happen regardless of who was president.

The PT.B have to get some credit for the buildings, if they get so much blame for many other things Let’s be fair.

The buildings are good. So far, there is pretty strong evidence the Luth has at least helped the football program and the school’s leadership should get part of the credit.

Dropping the Crusader nickname should help raise the number of applicants among 16-17 year olds who were too offended by the nickname to apply, but are now applying in droves.

As of this afternoon the athletic teams still carry the moniker “The Crusaders”.
The iconography associated with the initiative of Pope Urban II was removed as part of the Holy Cross athletic brand.
Many academic institutions, for example Harvard, Dartmouth, Stanford, Princeton, Holy Cross have eliminated the cartoonish characters associated with their athletic teams with an updated 21st Century branding logo for a clean and dynamic look.
If you want an explanation send a note to Phil Knight at Nike, Thomas Ruben at Adidas and Kevin Plank at Under Armour.

So with an “HC” as our logo instead of a Crusader, we’re now essentially the equivalent of the schools that have an “H”, a “Y”, a “P”, a”D”, etc. Hey, that was easy!

Ignutz, you got it.....”You are known by the company you keep”. If the Y is for Yale, they have yet to get the message, the still have a Bulldog, Handsome Dan.
The guy in the suit of armour riding a horse is well passed retirement age. He has been around since 1096, making him over 900 years old. I believe he has taken up residence at the Villages in Florida and now riding a golf cart.

The letters are lame. Every edge with regard to marketing and recruiting can be leveraged. The reason why the Crusader now sits rusting in his Florida gated retirement community center are perhaps most lame of all. I'd rather have ripped off the band-aid and cast and IV lines and switched entirely away from Crusader to something else, with a mascot, then this current half-assed approach.

Nostalgia took precedence over common sense. Institutions that blindly cling to the past are not in position to see the future. Historical artifacts, should be remembered as part of legacy, and placed in an archive. Time to create a new legacy initiative for the 21st century.

"Those that do not know the past are condemned to repeat it." Is that blindly clinging? Just how does one create a "new legacy initiative" without a foundation upon which to build? I am not sure it needs to be limited to an either/or situation.

"Crusaders offend people." Okay then let's not be the Crusaders. Instead we're half Crusaders and half not to avoid offending anybody. Possibly the worst sort of public message I want to be associated with. Every time it comes up it just pisses me off. And the teams are playing horribly so it's harder to distract me.
