HC needs to play hardball if necessary and don't let this guy roll over us. HE is a must better fit for the DCU than a minor league team that possibly will be gone in a few years. Do hope it can be worked out for all involved but if not HC shouldn't bow out.

If the head of the DCU is so for HC, would not it be very difficult for the decision not to be for us ?

We will see but the general tone of the article certainly doesn't indicate that this will go smoothly. This is assuming HC admin wants to join HE.

Another huge feather in Nate Pine's cap Too bad Paul Pearl is not around to see it.
Matunuck, Would this move have gotten this far without the Administration's support ?

HC's discussions with HE are much further along than this article implies.

Great news!!!!
Not a doubt in my mind that the administration supports this.
Good for the Cross and Worcester. It seem like the echl guys has invested a bunch of money, so I hope the greater Worcester area can support both teams to everyone's benefit.
Cheers.

Agree HC1843. I think admin does want to move. Bigger point is that we don't blow it or get scared off. Great to read Purple's comment.

This article has some major issues...does not mention that UConn plays all their home games in an AHL rink and providence actually has two college hockey programs in the city.
The ECHL commish can shove it with his comments about competing with Holy Cross for attendance....that team won't last more than 3 years

This is the only choice for HC! HE would be the first major conference connection for the college. No brainer!! With all the failed affiliation misses of past, this is something HC and Worcester needs. Second tier minor league hockey (aka Worcester tornadoes) is a nice novelty, but major college hockey is much better. Make the move DCU and HC

Does this explain why there is no major enhancements to the Hart rink in the current construction?

The city owns the building. The city wants HC in the building. HC wants to be in the building. All we need to know. The fact that the other tenant may not be happy. Too bad. Major props to ADNP, the administration, and the board. Situations do not get this far without the full support of all parties. The prospects of Holy Cross playing any member of Hockey East at the DCU is very appealing. The market will dictate how the Worcester Railers do vs the other members of this "AA" minor league. Wish the Railers well. If they put out a great product attractively priced, I am sure they will do just fine. For those who care, here is a link to the ECHL: www.echl.com/directory

Hopefully this happens, games at the DCU with BC, BU, Providence, Umass, UConn, Maine , Northeastern, Vermont, UmassLowell, every year. Don't let this chance go away, now is the time to commit and tell HE that we are coming. I don't think the Railers will last three years, minor league hockey is not what the people are interested in.

This is the biggest piece of positive news regarding HC sports in the last 35 years.
We are joining the country's best league for the given sport. Please keep the momentum up.
I am gutted for Paul Pearl. For decades he kept the program alive with masking tape. No knock on Berard but Paul deserved to take HC into Hockey East.

If the the Railers get a Bruins affiliation they will survive, if not, forget it. I do think Worcester can support both minor league and HC hockey.

Railers have contract with first right for schedule dates...this will be a problem. Railers owner has been all over the city since team was announced and looks like he's going to be an excellent local owner. He has invested in real estate and is building a hockey facility in the canal district (Harding/Green Street area). This will be a major stumbling block since both Railers and HC need/want weekend dates. Hope it works out for both.

Railers would play in the north division with teams from new york, pa.,and ontario. I understand they would also have games against the other divisions (all over the usa west of the mississippi). there will be plenty of road trips. a little creativity in scheduling should yield a win-win scenario for both teams. We might have to play an occasional midweek home game (as uconn does with their arrangement in Hartford).

As I've noted in the past, DCU works very will with HC, and for good reason. Hoop NCAA's have been held 2x at the Centrum/DCU and hockey several times and HC has served as the host school. Without HC being the host school, these events do not come to Worc, and DCU Ctr. does not reap all the financial benefits. The DCU wants and needs to be a good partner for HC, and will unquestionably do so.
