Cliff Rucker has already invested millions in the Worcester community, why not invest a sum to HC to expand the rink on campus? Of course it's not my money, but that'd be pretty great. He can ensure that HC will not encroach on his downtown market, HC will have a nicer on-campus arena, and the Providence parallel for success would be even more fitting. I would rather watch a hockey east game at the DCU Center instead of the Hart Center. If they move Moynagh's to the Holy Cross campus I will change my mind.

Just saw that Sacred Heart made a deal to play all of its home games in the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport. AHA players and coaches will no doubt miss the Milford Ice Pavilion. Holy Cross will have the worst facility in the conference soon with Bentley getting a rink and AIC and Sacred Heart moving to the minor league rinks Worst facility with regard to size and aesthetics. But it has a great sightline that puts you on top of the action.

DCU over a new, 4000 seat on-campus rink? Absolutely not.

Long term, I would guess an additional new 4,000-seat arena could be built next to existing Hart rink but the cost Guessing Worcester/DCU would be good cost-wise over that for 12-15 years plus.

Colgate's new Class of '65 rink, seats nearly 2,200, cost $38 million. (There are new locker rooms for soccer and lacrosse, so the ice hockey side cost is not less than $35 million.) Reserved seats (seatbacks) number perhaps 1,700 or so, the rest is student bleacher seating.

You guys know I am at a ton of Holy Cross hockey....just saying that many Atlantic Hockey programs have upgraded their facilities lately.

But Option A is not to be in that conference and not to play in that rink. Until we figure out if Option A will work, no need to consider upgrading the rink.

It is continuing that Hockey East will be staying with 11 teams as the Railers have been able to force Holy Cross out of the DCU

This really shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. Minor league owner is playing hardball behind the scenes, as some predicted. Will HC rollover or show some spine?

The Railers are dead to me. Really wish someone would step forward with a big donation to fund an on-campus arena. By the way, just checked Vegas and the over/under on the lifespan of the Railers is 2.5 years

Just pulled up a random ECHL schedule (Adirondack Thunder). Their arena has 27 Friday and Saturday nights from October through March when there is no home game for the ECHL team. Pretty sure we could work with that. Hate the Railers.

If the city manager in Worcester cannot make this work then the time has come for Worcester to have a strong mayor form of government. Shame on the city of Worcester, the Railers and Holy Cross if an agreement cannot be reached. Totally ridiculous.

This absolutely blows.
I guarantee that Centrum management regrets taking it up the wazzu from this two-bit ECHL operation. Hope they have a long-term guarantee of lease fees from the team, as I'm taking the under on 92's odds, because this team will not draw more that a thousand a nite once everyone has brought a foam finger and t-shirt.
Place will be empty all winter again real soon.

I sure as hell won't be going to any Railers games. They'll be gone in 2 or 3 years anyway.

To me, it looks like the counter move by Hockey East to the noise the Railers were making when the news first broke that HC was under consideration. Basically saying we're willing to walk, putting public pressure on Worcester, the DCU, and the Railers to work something out or lose out.

What is the incentive in even owning one of these minor league teams? High probability of failure after a few years and not much upside. What a waste

To be the devil's advocate here, perhaps the city of Worcester is just figuring they have been down this road with Holy Cross one too many times and do not want the rug pulled out from them again. Who knows what will happen with the Railers, I still say they can only survive if they get a Bruins affiliation. Hopefully the city manager is flexing some muscle, sitting down the Railers and Holy Cross together and telling them to make it work or there will be no favors from the city administration.

The Railers don't want HE at all. Right now, the Railers have zero incentive to work things out. What's needed is for HC, the DCU, and Worcester pols to not let the tail wag the dog here.

Can't help but get a little chuckle at this whole thing. When the city of Worcester desperately wanted Holy Cross to join the Big East the mantra was the Holy Cross had to do what was good for Holy Cross. Now that Holy Cross needs the city of Worcester the alums are shaking their fists demanding something be done. Believe me, I would like nothing more than to see Hockey East in this city. Perhaps investing on some real dollars in downtown Worcester on a scale similar to Cliff Rucker may help.

It's time everybody sends a message to the City Manager to sit down with both parties so settle this problem. I'm sure Holy Cross will be here in Worcester longer than the Railers. Tell all of your friends to send a note to City Hall and tell them we need HE in the DCU Center.
I'm sure HC has more ways to force the City to get behind this.

Period. End. Cheers.
