Northeastern Asst. Dave McLaughlin to be named Dartmouth Head Coach - per Hoop Dirt. The last coach who left Dartmouth with a winning recod there was Ozzie Cowles who was a composite 19-11 in his two year stint from 1944-1946

For a school that has had very little success ovah the years, Dartmouth has had some pretty high profile coaches: Doggie Julian, Dave Gavitt, Blaney...I believe Al McGuire was an assistant there as well.

Ex-Lehigh coach Billy Taylor, who was reportedly in the mix for the Cornell and Dartmouth jobs, will become head coach at D2 Belmont Abbey, per Hoopdirt.

I don't think that means anything. That page, characteristically, has just not been updated. (Carmody in first year, past season's roster, etc.)

Fava's Twitter account pretty clearly references his tenure at HC as ending in 2016.

Apparently ex-Navy coach Billy Lange is in the mix to fill the final D1 vacancy at Delaware. What fun awaits Lange or whomever - after graduations and wholesale transfers, the Blue Hens are down to four scholarship players, and have no incoming freshmen at this point. An absolute disaster that will take several years to fix.

I wonder how his health is. To retire/resign so suddenly (at this time of year) after accepting a 3 year extension does seem to be strange.

Agree that it must be his health Not his nature to resign in mid May

I'm good friends with Coach Baron's son in law, Jimmy Baron and wife had twin girls last fall..Coach Baron has expressed a desire to spend more time with the grand kids, and that is very difficult to do when one coaches D-1 in Canisius NY and the children are in Massachusetts part of the year and in Belgium part of the year. Both Jimmy and Billy played in Belgium last year on the same team..

Quite a story teller, he will be missed on the sidelines ... thanks for posting. HC mention at 26 minutes while discussing Brooklyn, Alcindor and Donohue

Joe Baron (Jim's brother) was a teammate of Stan Grayson and the late Buddy Venne in the class of '72.

Terrific stuff Having grown up in Brooklyn, but not in the projects, I can really understand where he is coming from. Jack Donohue befriended Joe Baron and brought him to his camp, Friendship Farm where he played with Alcindor.. thanks, Res, for the link.

The single greatest, funniest storyteller I have ever encountered was Jack Donohue, so I guess Jim comes by it honestly. While at URI, Jim had the distinction of being the highest paid RI state employee but I am sure Calhoun in Connecticut and many other state university coaches are also the highest paid employees. I hope he has a long, healthy retirement.

I'm a lifelong Bona fan so I've followed Baron for a long time. I'm not sure it's as much as him being a great storyteller as it is that he has such great stories to tell. It used to be notoriously difficult to get any kind of interesting quote from him while he was coaching -- no Al McGuire, he -- but he really let it go in this press conference. I knew that most of you old-schoolers would enjoy it, especially you guys who grew up in New York.
