What was the difference in the third period? I can't figure it out but Holy Cross was all over them for the final 10 minutes of that game. It was like Carleton's legs were gone. The goals that Bennafato gave up early were far from his fault as his defense was a mess. I think this team should be very competitive this year as they have two very solid lines with Barrett (took a stupid major last night), TJ Moore, Pooley (kid scores everytime I go), Ryan Ferrill, and Danny Lopez to name a few guys. The freshman that really stood out to me was Jack Surowiec who seemed to be all over the ice throughout the game.

I've never heard of Carleton. Is anyone familiar with college hockey in Canada? I have to assume it's pretty good hockey. It is Canada.

I've never heard of Carleton. Is anyone familiar with college hockey in Canada? I have to assume it's pretty good hockey. It is Canada. The Carleton University Ravens are from Ottawa. Here is their account of our scrimmage (They play BC today and had hoped to go into that off a win...oops). MARLBOROUGH, MA – A third-period collapse rid the Ravens men’s hockey team of a pre-season victory as they fell to the states-side Holy Cross Crusaders 7-5. The late-surging Crusaders totalled five third-period goals to win what was the Ravens’ first of two U.S. pre-season games. Less than a minute in, the Ravens opened the floodgates as both them and the Crusaders combined for five goals within the first twelve minutes of play. Jason Seed (Ottawa, ON), David Weckworth (Kanata, ON), and Curtis Meighan (Ottawa, ON) each put the puck past Crusaders’ goalie Paul Berrafato. Along with high speed and good scoring chances, momentum seemed to be on the Ravens’ side as their three goals came from five shots. However, the home team managed to remain in the mix as goals from Danny Lopez and Mike Barrett kept the game within one goal at a score of 3-2. Justin Nichols (St. Catherine’s, ON) received the start for the Ravens and made 16 saves in his half-game performance. Halfway through the second period, Matthew Jenkins (Charlottetown, PEI) took over between the pipes as the Ravens continue to share pre-season ice time among their freshmen goalies. Over the remaining period and a half, Jenkins totalled 14 saves. In the second, the Ravens momentum began to shift. Fatigue slowly began to grow and the Crusaders began to find themselves back in the game. Before too much momentum was lost, a lone second-period goal from Brett Welychka (London, ON) along with a third-period tally from Brett Gustavsen (Scarborough, ON) gave the Ravens a 5-2 lead. With less than ten minutes left in the third, disaster struck. Five goals, including one empty-net goal, came from five different Crusaders as the hosts climbed their way back to take a 7-5 lead late in the game. “Unfortunately, we didn’t have the same legs after the first and gave up some grade-A scoring chances 5-on-5,” says Ravens head coach Marty Johnston. Saturday marked the first of two U.S. pre-season games for the Ravens as, Sunday, they travel to Boston for a 1 p.m. puck drop against the Boston College Eagles. “We have to find our game quickly as we will be facing an excellent team in Boston College tomorrow,” says Johnston. This late-game collapse eliminates virtually any momentum the Ravens could have built from tonight’s game against Holy Cross, making their matchup against the highly-touted Eagles even more daunting.
