Doesn't it almost make you want to make a contribution to Holy Cross athletics . . . . almost!

No. I contribute to St. Benedicts Preparatory School, Newark, NJ, which needs it infinitely more than HC. Is that OK with you?

It is possible to do both. Perhaps you did not think of that.

That might be good advice for you to take. If you don't want input, perhaps avoid making such announcements on CROSSPORTS. Certainly avoid repeating your insults twice. BTW, I now volunteer regularly at St Benedict's (Newark) with "Angels Among Us." I also contribute to HC. If you chose not to give to your alma mater, that is certainly your right. You might simply want to find a better excuse.

How about he's on a "fixed income?"

How about he's on a "fixed income?" Me too. That's no better. How about "I just don't want to. I only want to critique the school and coaches, not actually offer any support?"

Oh, you were serious, RGS!?
Perhaps he is unlike me, and probably you, and donates 100% of his charitable giving to St. Benedict's, a notable and worthy cause. I donate to Holy Cross and an assortment of other charities including my local Catholic Church and Catholic Charities. I think we can safely rule out that he is donating to the church and/or any organization related to the church with the exception of his old high school.
While what and who he donates to is really none of our business and I am fine with that, I think his lack of financial support puts a significant dent in his right to criticize how the Holy Cross administration spends its money since not one dime of it is his.
How about the rest of us start complaining about how St. Benedict's spends their money?

More than 40% of HC alums do not contribute to HC. On your theory they have no right to even voice an opinion about HC. Have you ever stopped for a moment to realize how ridiculous your attitude is?

rgs- Sincere thanks to you for your assistance to Benedicts in the furtherance of the great work they do with minority boys. The national and even international exposure they got from the "60 Minutes" piece has been extraordinary.

The national and even international exposure they got from the "60 Minutes" piece has been extraordinary. It has indeed been a blessing for that school and its students. The high school now runs the elementary school (as of last year) and is K-12 (but with two names for the respective schools).

I am aware of my theory and do not believe it is ridiculous. You spend a great deal of time offering criticism of HC, its policies and its coaches. Some of it is well founded and all of it is your right to do. You also have chosen to share that you do not contribute financially to HC. I would think that such a passionate "fan" could find at least a few dollars for the school...or at least not make the lack of financial support so public. But that is just my opinion. I agree that "skin in the game" can alter one's viewpoint.

I discovered this last week and also thought it was excellent. Particularly like the graphic map of campus and the seating chart of Fitton....very much well done !
So who were the Worcester persons of note that were recognized for their achievements for 'Worcester Day' ?

rgs- I have never been ashamed to tell the truth about myself. If I did not donate to any organization, that would be one thing. But I do donate to Benedicts because it needs every dollar of my modest contribution and they do incredible good. In other words, their need is existential in a way that HC's need for my modest potential contribution is not. There is lots about HC that I do not approve of, but she is my Alma Mater, I am proud of her and I promote her every chance I get. I went to HC for one reason and one reason alone--to get into medical school. I did get into three med schools, thanks to their outstanding pre-med program, which was one of the very best in the entire U.S. How could I not cherish HC. But the school that truly made me was Benedicts and its monks. It has to fight for its very survival every year. It doesn't have a meaningful endowment. My brother went there. My parents were very actively involved with the school. We are a Benedicts family.
