Martindale's big deficiencies are at the defensive end. He made 2 or 3 horrible plays today at that end in the first half ...and, while I may have lost track; it seemed like his "pine time" was considerably longer than it usually is, no coincidence, I believe.
Until he gets to be more of a physical presence out there; it's tough to depend upon him underneath; even when he's otherwise playing well. That could and should happen.
Johnson's solid, seemed off today although he played ok down the stretch.
The other two guards show signs, then seem to regress; an optimist would say they'll be fine in a year w/hard work.
The big guys? Who knows. Big guys develop slowly at our level. But they do develop. And they are large kids.

Unfortunately Colgate, American and Bucknell have freshmen bigs who are already making big contributions and will be beasts in this league.

The only coaching move that I didn't like was a non-move.
Nelson called time out after Army scored two straight baskets to make it 14-13, HC That was the under 12 time out. The next time out was at under 8. The score at that point was 23-16, Army.
They played terribly during that stretch, both ends of the floor. A couple nice plays in there that kept it from getting out of hand, but, nevertheless, it was the part of the ballgame where they lost control of it. Right away, I could sense things were not going well and I thought Nelson should have regrouped instead of waiting.

Butler is healthy this year. Faw has improved. Wade had improved. So those three represent an improvement over last year. Gates replacing Pridgen and Johnson replacing Lowder to fill out a starting five is perhaps a push. Our winning percentage will be higher so that's an improvement.

Per KenPom we have moved up from #348 to #330 from game 1 (ranking must be speculative) to game 14
I'll look at some other measures, but no real progress on that one metric

Ignutz, are you going by the play-by-play? I think it's messed up. Three or four times, it says: Army Player missed Free Throw Army Offensive Rebound (same) Army Player Made Free Throw. That doesn't make any sense. There was no subsequent foul on HC, only the foul that put the Army player on the line to begin with. I think it somehow means that the Army guy missed the first and made the second, which I remember happening a few times. Long way of me saying with all the problems HC had in the game, that particular no-no wasn't one of them; if it was, it happened once or twice, not several times. Thank you for the explanation.

What would the oddsmakers here among us make of our chances to get to 10 wins before our 50th loss?

Despite improvement in the second half we finished the day shooting .400 on twos. Following the .341 on twos versus BU that gave us the worst back-to-back games since Michigan-Providence in Nov 2018. It's no great insight to say "we must do better"

butler is indeed a warrior and his hard-nosed play has been one of the few bright spots over the past several seasons. AB definitely should get some serious consideration for an all-PL spot (maybe 2nd team?).
He has three double-doubles in the last four games. And after his strange 3-16 start from the stripe, he's gone 26-31 (84%).

I am not sure if we would have won a few more games this season if we played a balanced conference schedule, but if that included 2-4 more wins, would people say we improved this season?
Like most young teams it often is two steps forward and then one or two steps back. Individually the players have improved and for the most part they played much harder.I still have significant concerns about the Xs and Os and in-game adjustments, but time will tell if decision makers agree.
I am glad the school and league allowed for a season, albeit strange abbreviated, and we had the opportunity to watch Butler and Faw complete Holy Cross careers. To both of our seniors, I want to say thank you for your commitment, loyalty, and service!

We lost two home games to Lehigh you can't get much more of a layup than that.

To both of our seniors, I want to say thank you for your commitment, loyalty, and service! On one hand, having a non-league schedule similar to the previous year would have (a) got us a couple more wins and (b) gotten the kids acclimated to college ball somewhat before entering league play. Would have perhaps eliminated a couple of league stinkers that occurred early in the season too (Army Game #1, Colgate (2), Lehigh (2)); maybe not wins in exchange but better play for sure. Also, not as bad as some opponents, there has been considerable schedule (and, probably practice) changes that an inexperienced team would most likely have more problems adjusting to. On the other hand, the type of adjustments (league) opponents have made w/regard to our personnel (Gates being the prime example) would have more or less happened from the get go. Some here w/more basketball knowledge than myself question whether Nelson would be up to reacting to those. We'll no doubt see about that next year. The only game I gave up on was the early season Saturday game w/Colgate. Cannot say that about 2019-20. Clearly an uptick in effort and determination (and most likely, a downtick in discord); but wins have to follow or it will end badly for yet another coach.

For those holding out hope, this loss mathematically eliminated HC from the second spot in the division and its playoff spot
The chance at one of the last two spots is a real long shot

I agree 100%--no voter should discount his exceptional rebounding In the last few games he has passed Tim Shea, Jim Nairus, and Big Tim Clifford and now stands tied with the great Billy Doran for #22 in career scoring with 1,268 points

It'll be interesting to see where Gates and Butler end up as far as PL honors are concerned (and if our final record limits them in any way).
