I will pray for Cardinal Burke's recovery, as I would for anyone, but it's disgusting that someone this ignorant and hateful is a prince of the Church.

Cardinal Burke's decrying the feminization of the Church is rich. Is he taking a sideways swipe at gay Priests? The hierarchy of the Church couldn't be less feminized.

“ Washington Football Team head coach Ron Rivera sounded off on vaccine misinformation that has depressed vaccine uptake, including among some professional athletes: "“Gen Z is relying on [smartphones]. And you got some, quite frankly, f**king a**holes that are putting a bunch of misinformation out there, leading people to die. That’s frustrating to me, that these people are allowed to have a platform. And then, one specific news agency, every time they have someone on, I’m not a doctor, but the vaccines don’t work. Or I’m not an epidemiologist, but vaccines are going to give you a third nipple and make you sterile. Come on. That, to me? That should not be allowed.”

Of course, Cardinal Burke wasn't vaccinated. A very minute fraction of those who are fully vaccinated and become infected, wind up being intubated. If Pope Francis said, 'get vaccinated', Burke would be opposed. And I highly doubt he is tweeting while on a ventilator.

The new Covid-19 test is designed to detect and differentiate all the new mutating Covid-19 variants
The new Covid-19 test is designed to run on commonly available qPCR cyclers.
Precision molecular diagnostics company DiaCarta has secured CE mark approval for its new QuantiVirus SARS-CoV-2 Variant Detection Test.
The new Covid-19 test has the potential to screen SARS-CoV-2 virus, in addition to detecting and differentiating all the new mutating Covid-19 variants such the Alpha (UK), Beta (S. Africa), Gamma (Brazil), Delta (India), Delta Plus (India), Epsilon (California) and the Kappa (India)
Designed to run on commonly available qPCR cyclers, the new test is powered by the company’s advanced XNA based Molecular Clamping Technology.
The technology uses advanced synthetic Xenonucleic acid molecular oligomers (XNA) , which hybridise with target DNA sequences and can be deployed as molecular clamps in quantitative real-time polymerase chain reactions (qPCR).
The XNA tightly bound to the wild-type sequences specifically enables only the mutant sequences to be precisely amplified, said the company.
DiaCarta founder and CEO Dr Aiguo (Adam) Zhang said: “Expensive and time-consuming NGS assays are currently the only option to detect new and emerging Covid-19 variants which are causing widespread global alarm, and creating an urgent need for cost-effective testing platforms that can quickly and accurately detect variants.
“Our new test shows that our XNA technology can do both – precisely detect known and emerging SARS-CoV-2 mutations and provide an expeditious, inexpensive solution for variant surveillance.”
DiaCarta is also seeking an emergency use authorization (EUA) from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the new rapid SARS-CoV-2 variant detection test.
The company provides various testing services ranging from single-gene QClamp qPCR tests to OptiSeq XNA-NGS panels to OptiSeq XNA-NGS panels, in addition to its FDA EUA approved QuantiVirus SARS-CoV-2 tests.

I suspect that some right wing opinion show hosts and conservative legislators who won't say if they are vaccinated probably are vaccinated to hedge their bets, but the Cardinal probably put his faith in God. I hope the latest therapeutics help him pull through. I am sure he hopes to hang on to get one more vote for Pope before he ages out.

It sounds draconian, but on the flip side, I marvel at a country that is so united. A government measure such as this couldn't work if the people didn't have confidence in their elected leaders and the Covid results speak for themselves that they do. As a proud citizen of the UNITED States, I am hungry for that.

I'll pass on living in a country / world where I'm being told to "stay in your bubble" and "don't talk to your neighbors." Why are these extreme protective measures going into place with corona, but not other diseases / viruses that have such high survival rates? All rational thought has gone out the window in New Zealand and Australia. I'm glad that in most states in the US, we still have our basic freedoms.

I know I'll regret this post but . . . . a lot of people think the loss of rational thought has gone out the window in the United States, especially in places like Florida and Texas. We have statistically proven effective vaccines but too many people listen to politicians and others who make this about a loss of freedom and outrageous claims like causing sterility rather than the public health issue it actually is. There is absolutely no basis for the latter and as to the former, you want to get sick/hospitalized/die? Yep, that's your right. But it is a public health issue, not an individual health issue. You get sick, you can give it to others. That's where your "basic freedom" ends because it is no longer just about you. It's about us in the community.
And even if you don't give me your Covid because you haven't been vaccinated and won't wear a mask, you can give it to someone else. If enough someone else's catch it, the hospitals get overwhelmed and if I or others have a totally different health crisis, we may not be able to get the medical care we need because resources have been diverted due to Covid.

It is an individual decision, aka free will. Many of us hope that all will be vaccinated and the skeptics will resolve their concerns, but we can’t force anybody to violate their free will even when we disagree. Sader1970 I will light a candle at mass again in the morning that this all ends in the right place.

We live in a time of virulent individualism. Individual freedom can't be exercised when it comes to wearing a seat belt, smoking in public buildings, killing someone, paying taxes, etc. Why should anyone have an unfettered right to expose themselves to a deadly disease and overburden our health system or spread said disease to countless others? Our society regularly constrains people from doing things they want to do by virtues of laws, court rulings, regulations, customs, traditions, ethics, and simple human decency. You don't get to do whatever you want. Reasonable limits on the exercise of free will are part of living in a community of other humans.

If these issues are so clear, why is there not 100% agreement on every aspect of them among medical doctors?

Governor Abbott of Texas has tested positive. He has no symptoms, as he is fully vaccinated. ________________ More and more, people in the workplace are being given two options, either be vaccinated or be tested frequently, like once or twice a week. And it seems the cost of the tests are being levied against the individual choosing not to be vaccinated. And wait until insurers declare they will not pick up the health care costs of unvaccinated individuals. ______________ The public schools in Salem MA now require those engaged in high respiration activities and ages 12 and over be vaccinated, or wear a mask when participating. patch.com/massachusetts/salem/salem-school-committee-approves-vaccine-mandate-sports-band

If these issues are so clear, why is there not 100% agreement on every aspect of them among medical doctors? Even the old commercials that said three out of four Doctors agree, never said every Doctor agrees. Quackery will never die.
