I just had the thought the Ivy League might solve its football OOC seed dilemma, if indeed it is one, by poaching 2-3 PL schools so they could eliminate non-conference games. They could add 2 and return to a 9 game season or add 3 to maintain a 10 game season. I guess the latter wouldn’t work for their hoops schedule. The obvious choices would come from Colgate and the PA schools.

This is even more ridiculous than the William and Mary to PL or flood plain talk.

This is even more ridiculous than the William and Mary to PL or flood plain talk. I guess that is a vote for the Ancient Eight maintaining the status quo.

This will not happen for any number of reasons, including the fact that the Ivies are fairly large research institutions with professional schools and graduate schools offering dozens of doctorates. Primarily undergraduate colleges are allowed to play as guests, not to be members.

They tend to "look down" not only on all outsiders, but even on some of their own "lesser" members.

On the other hand, in this era of conference upheaval, no school has quit the league in the last quarter century. Sounds pretty stable to me

Supposedly, there was a conversation some years back about GU joining the Ancient Eight. Nothing came of it. The conclusion was that GU could fit academically, but that was about it An d GU would lose out on Big East revenues, which subsidize some of its athletic program. None of the other PL schools can come close to meeting the Ivies AI.

I am more likely to win an Olympic gold medal in the giant slalom (I have never skied) than the Ivy League is to add another school

The IVY league is not a sports league that anybody would want to join. They are 50 years behind the other leagues. They also think people care about the Ivy League sports across the country. I know they canceled their season first before the COVID. But they still haven't brought back sports from it.
-Don't let football play in the FCS playoffs. Yet they have some of the best teams in the FCS. I am surprised they let the other teams even play in the postseason. I hope the FCS thing changes with a new generation of people in charge but I doubt it. -Also they just canceled an entire season of sports. If they could get rid of sports they probably would. -They never do a thing for their fans. They all have giant stadiums for a lot of their sports and have 0 promoting.
Everyone on this board talks about HC not having a local fanbase of not alumni people. What is the IVY local fanbases like? Some teams I am sure do better than others. But Brown, Columbia, Cornell, football fanbases are non existent right now. I hope it changes.

I could definitely see two strong camps emerging at GU if such a choice presented itself. Speaking of which, wasn't there some Ivy interest years ago in adding Army and Navy?

I doubt many of the eight Ivy football stadiums have video boards and they could certainly all afford them.

Harvard does.... I don't recall one at Dartmouth and Yale. The question is on Brown which has plenty of space to add one since the last time I was down there for football.

Cornell and Princeton also have video boards. I believe Franklin Field's scoreboard has one also. So that is 6/8 in the Ivy League.

Army and Navy were in their baseball league up to 1993, starting as far back as the 50s at least.

Yale's an interesting one given that their former scoreboard was older than the one that was at Fitton from the mid60s to the mid80s and was still running at the turn of the century.

I saw the HC/Penn game there in 1990- hell of a view of the action from the upper deck; something you don't get very much at our level.

So they all have one then! Fitton was the last purist stadium. Should have filmed a period movie there before the old scoreboard came down. I remember a movie with "The Rock" being filmed there. Any others?
