Since several of us have been engaged in a lot of chatter about this; I thought it might be worthwhile to start a separate thread so we can track intriguing FBS/FCS match-ups throughout the year. Below are the 10 most likely FCS teams to upset FBS teams this week. Odds makers are starting to put lines on more games so I will update as they come in. Feel Free to make predictions on spreads/points, outright winners or comment:
Tonight Sept 1st: UAB v Jacksonville State (line UAB -16.5)
Final UAB 31 - Jack Sate 0
Thursday Sept 2nd: Eastern Washington @ UNLV (EW -1.5) UT Martin @ Western Kentucky (WKU -22)
Friday Sept. 3rd: U of South Dakota @ Kansas (KU -13.5) SDSU @ Colorado State (CSU -3)
Saturday Sept 4th: Holy Cross @ UCONN (UCONN -3) Montana State @ Wyoming (Wyoming -19) Monmouth @ Middle Tennessee (no line) Central Arkansas @ Arkansas State (ARST -13.5) Portland State @ Hawaii (no line)
I didn’t include any games that ESPN’s FPI model gave the FCS team a 5% chance or less. Any other upset would be a pretty big one.

Jacksonville State played Florida State tough last year. I could see them winning against UAB. Eastern Washington I believe will win. Colorado State's Addazio with a loss would be a horrendous way to open his tenure there. I think Colorado State wins though. I could see both Montana State and HC winning, but not the others. South Dakota could easily beat Kansas who is in the same category as UMASS and UCONN.
So....Winners - South Dakota, Montana State, HC, Eastern Wash, Jacksonville State - cuz why not.

DHarry, getting some nice points with Jack State and South Dakota…you should throw down a few frog skins on them.

Likeliest winners, in order:
South Dakota State Holy Cross Eastern Washington Monmouth
I'd be surprised if any of these teams win (likeliest winner to most unlikely)
South Dakota Central Arkansas Jax State Portland State UT Martin Montana State

Updates as of Thursday 9/2 AM: Eastern Washington now favored by 1.5 over UNLV. Line opened UNLV -3 and moved hard to EW. Two other potential FCS v FBS games tonight that could be competitive: Houston Baptist @ New Mexico (NM -25) HB moved up from D2 to FCS only a 2-3 years ago but progressing quickly. UC Davis @ Tulsa (Tulsa -22)
Also, lots of good FCS v FCS match ups tonight: UNH @ Stony Brook (SB -2) UNH’s starting QB tore his ACL in camp Delaware @ Maine (UD -7.5) Incarnate Word @ Youngstown St (YSU -6.5) UIW another newer Texas FCS program getting better fast (Catholic Univ based in San Antonio) Austin Peay @ Chattanooga (UTC -5) Two top 20 preseason FCS teams Sam Houston St @ Norther Arizona (SHSU -11)

/\ /\Sitting at SBU watching the game and it is great to be back. Sun is shining , decent crowd, no mask/vaccine passport issues, UNH fans pleasantly surprised at the beer sales, and this should be a good one. Go SBU. (FWIW they play Colgate and Fordham later this month)

Obviously, the big one was UC Davis upsetting Tulsa 19-17 after being 22.5 point underdogs and only a 6% chance of winning by ESPN’s FPI. Eastern Washington defeats UNLV in Double OT 35-33 (which is where the line closed. EW a 2 pt favorite makes a PUSH) Also, Western Illinois played Ball State (projected one of the top 3-4 teams in the MAC) very evenly deep into the 2nd half and loses 31-21. Ball State was favored by ~28. Finally, Houston Baptist played New Mexico tough but 3 turnovers cost them. New Mexico wins 27-17.

I watched every play. It was not even close. SDSU was the better team across the board and put in their 2’s after going up 42-16 early in the 4th! Talent, game plan, execution…everything. I was at the game against HC last year and was even more impressed watching last night. The Jacks have to the favorite to win the FCS National Championship. I bet our guys will compare UCONN today closer to Monmouth and Yale. SDSU is a whole other level. It should serve our guys well having played against them so recently. SDSU would be a top 5 team in the Mountain West. Only Boise State, Nevada and to a lesser extent San Jose St and Fresno St would be favored against them after last night.

Midwest, know you have eyes on this game — UNI down 13-10 to #7 Iowa State late in the 3rd quarter. UNI was picked to finish fifth in the MVC.
The top FCS teams really aren’t that far away from the upper half of the FBS.
