Dopey Brits don’t know how to speak English! It’s Zee-bra, Who in their right mind would call an elevator a flat? I think you are mixing two terms Brits call an elevator a "lift". A "flat" is the Brit term for an apartment. Brit terms can creep into American English usage, a prominent example is "at the end of the day" has replaced the prior American "when all is said and done" When all is said and done, more will be said than done. That truism will never be replaced.😂

Wasn't it Winston Churchill who said..."America and England, two nations divided by a common language"?

Wasn't it Winston Churchill who said..."America and England, two nations divided by a common language"? Churchill likely said it but some suggest it was G B Shaw or Oscar Wilde--and Winston Churchill was a man smart enough to learn from the Irish.....

No surprise zebra is pronounced differently, the British say "zed" (rhymes with Jed) rather than "zee" when saying the letter "z".

The trunk of your car is "the Boot"
The hood is the bonnet. Remember the Formula 1 race car driver turned commentator Jackie Stewart exclaiming "There goes the bonnet!" when a car lost the hood in a crash.
An eggplant is an aubergine - which is a French word.
