Next year's women's schedule should be pretty interesting.

sacred heart is D.1 independent and just look at their schedule. it's a mishmash of club teams and D. 1, 2 and 3. totally unacceptable for us and agree that we need a definite conference membership for 2018-19. one year as an inde is necessary and will help develop some of the young talent we recruit for next season.

I predict we will wind up playing in Hockey East for the women. If we don't, that's a bad sign for the men's program ever getting in.

HC never would've made this move if it expected to continue as an indy. HE will welcome them. Even tho they'll pay some SERIOUS dues playing against BC, BU, NU and non-conference teams like Q'piac that are WAY ahead of them, it's a great move for the school, the students, the program, PVB, and the women who've got them to this point, and the women who will lead them forward. Congrats to all who did the hard work behind making the presentation to the BOT who ultimately gave the OK.

It is about time! I have a number of friends who played on the team and had to explain to folks the concept of a D1 team playing in a D3 conference, which made them ineligible for postseason play. We have dominated that league and the open tourney each season since I arrived on the Hill in 2007. It is about time their dressing room was upgraded to include showers. They gave the ladies embroidered HC Hockey robes my junior year to make trapsing over to the swim locker room more modest of a venture. Even their old room was a bit lacking in amenities compared to the men's locker room. I hope geography wins out and we wind up in Hockey East. We might not be a contender right off the bat, but we won't be a cellar dweller.

Very good news. I have no inside knowledge, but I'll wager that this is a precursor to the eventual announcement that both teams are moving leagues! Go Cross!

Maybe not, as there were basically bounced from the league they were playing in and put on notice 2 yrs ago that the league was going to be D3 only.

I certainly hope so, but there are an awful lot of assumptions being made based on a decision that HC had little choice over. I'm sure we will all have a better idea once they announce where the women are going to land sometime in the next couple of months.

I think this came up a few years back when UConn and Holy Cross were rumored to be going to HEA. Ultimately it was a lot of unnecessary hype for us. I remember HEA Commish Bertagna citing a preference for bringing both teams into the conference to expand the women's league. Unfortunately Title IX restrictions for equal facilities prevented HC women from playing D1 (they needed to upgrade to actually having showers, for one). Now that problem is taken care of and even Jerry York is excited about our prospects

The Title 9 issue wasn't facilities, as HC has in been in violation of those requirements in a number of sports including hockey for awhile. The Title 9 assist was due to football. Once HC went all in on scholarships for FB, they needed to find sufficient offsets in women's sports, hockey will be one of the biggest, but not only beneficiary of that requirement.

My friends on the womens team always gripped about the equal facility thing, so I thought that was the main issue

FWWI--UCONN women were in HE for 12 years before the men were admitted. Let's hope it does not play out the same way for us. Agree that it would be tough but not an impossible fit. Have to upgrade the facilities.

Women's ice hockey is allowed 18 scollies. That costs about $1 million at HC. It's likely these will be phased in over a 3-4 year period. The other option might be to add a merit grant to whatever need-based aid is being provided to current players. Bison may know about whether such is allowed, for a team that, in effect, is re-classifying.
